Sparks vs Liberty Predictions, Picks, Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Cameron Brink's rookie season has been brought to an untimely end, but the Sparks are catching a ton of points tonight against a Liberty squad that our WNBA picks think will have trouble keeping that distance.

Not much has gone right for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2024.

Having now lost Cameron Brink for the season, they visit a New York Liberty side that just saw its 8-game win streak crash to a halt.

The books are feeling a New York bounce-back, tagging the home side as a 14.5-point favorite, but my Sparks vs. Liberty prediction thinks that may be a tad much.

Sparks vs Liberty predictions

My best bet
Sparks +14.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis
The 4-11 Los Angeles Sparks were already in rebuild mode, but those plans took a bad turn in last game’s 79-70 loss to the Connecticut Sun, as budding star Cameron Brink tore her left ACL and is done for the season.

While it’s a crushing blow to lose the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft, Brink was just feeling things out in her rookie year, putting up 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.

The Sparks haven’t been able to get it going offensively this year, putting up 77.1 points per game on the season, the third-lowest total in the W.

Their defense hasn’t been able to support that pop-gun offense, giving up 83.7 points per game, which ranks ninth, while allowing teams to hit at a 35.5% clip from distance, the third-worst rate in the league.

If there’s any good news to a four-game skid the Sparks are currently on, it’s that they’ve been competitive with the cream of the crop. They suffered single-digit losses to both the first-place Sun and second-ranked Minnesota Lynx.

The New York Liberty are tied with the Lynx for the second-best record in the league at 12-3, but teams have been hanging with them of late. During their current 8-1 streak, the Liberty won the first five games by double figures; an average of 17.2 points per game. Over the last four, however, the largest difference has been eight points.

Still, New York is putting up 86.6 points per game, while shooting 45.2% from the field and 34.5% from distance: all second-best marks in the league.

The Liberty are also third in defensive scoring, allowing 77.9 points per game, holding teams to 41.9% shooting, a Top-4 mark. New York has also dominated this head-to-head, winning five straight. However, in the last four, the Liberty have failed to cover as a betting favorite.

L.A.’s road losing streak sits at six, and while that should extend to seven, the Sparks have shown recently that they can hang with the top teams, and, even without Brink, should avoid being blown out.

Sparks vs Liberty same-game parlay (SGP)

Sparks +14.5

Sabrina Ionescu Over 6.5 assists

Dearica Hamby Under 10.5 rebounds

Sabrina Ionescu has been keeping her teammates well-fed recently.

The Liberty guard has doled out at least eight assists in three straight games, including a season-best 12 dimes in a 90-82 win over the Las Vegas Aces.

The playmaking has been helpful over this stretch, as Ionescu’s shooting has hit a wall. After shooting 7-for-13 against Washington, she put up a combined 11-for-34 mark the last two games; just a 32.4% clip.

The Sparks allow the fifth-most dimes, setting up nicely for this prop to hit.

Let’s finish with L.A.’s do-everything big, Dearica Hamby, who’s second in rebounds per game with 10.7 per contest.

However, Hamby has been slowed on the glass of late: After grabbing 10 or more boards in 11 of her first 13 games, she’s been held to single-digit rebounds in back-to-back outings.

New York is second in the W in rebounding, and first on the defensive boards. Hamby has also gone Under 10 rebounds in six straight games against the Liberty. Expect more of the same Thursday night.
