The Olympic break has done little to turn the Los Angeles Sparks’ season around and things get no easier as they visit the Connecticut Sun tonight.

My analysis
The Los Angeles Sparks could be racking up a lot of losses over the final months of the season. At 6-21, they’ve been short on answers at both ends of the floor.
But it’s their defensive woes that especially stand out. L.A. has been shredded in the past three contests, and I see that trend repeating here, making the Sun’s team total Over an appealing play.
Los Angeles gave up 109 points against the New York Liberty on Thursday as New York shot 53% from the field, then allowed 90 points against the Chicago Sky on Saturday. That feels ominous for tonight’s clash with a slick Connecticut Sun team.
The Sun are reeling from a surprisingly poor offensive output against the Dream, and I see the hosts scoring at will tonight, led by Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner.
It helps, too, that the Sun has owned this matchup in recent years. They’ve won the past 10 meetings, though they’ve only covered the spread in two of those contests.
With L.A. just playing out the string this summer, this looks like a great spot for Connecticut to flex its muscles as a WNBA contender — and that starts with a prolific offensive night.

Alyssa Thomas’ work on the boards hasn’t jumped off the stat sheet as often in her last five outings, but I’m counting on a shaky Sparks offense to offer up plenty of misses.
She’s averaging nine rebounds per game this season and I’m taking the Over on the 8.5 line for my SGP.
Someone has to score for the Sparks and relieve some of the pressure on Dearica Hamby. Rickea Jackson continues to impress as a consistent scorer in the L.A. starting five, and that’s where I’m looking for this third leg of the bet.
Jackson has finished with at least 13 points in five straight games, including a 23-point effort against the Dallas Wings.
I see her getting enough decent looks against Connecticut, and she’s the type of young star that the Sparks should be pushing into a bigger role during this lost season.
