The 2024 WNBA season nears the Olympic break as action continues Saturday afternoon with a matchup between the Los Angeles Sparks and Dallas Wings in Arlington, TX.

The Sparks have lost 10 of their last 11 games with their one win being an upset home victory in OT over the Las Vegas Aces. The Wings have lost 16 of their last 18 games with both wins in that span coming at home.

My Sparks vs. Wings predictions run down the spread and total for this Western Conference battle as I give my best WNBA picks for July 13.

Sparks vs Wings predictions

My best bet
Arike Ogunbowale Over 21.5 points (-105 at DraftKings)

My analysis

These teams currently boast the two worst records in the WNBA and have been plagued by injuries all season long.

The Los Angeles Sparks have lost rookie phenom Cameron Brink and key role player Lexie Brown indefinitely. The Dallas Wings have had three of their Top 4 scorers from this season miss significant time, and last year’s second-leading scorer has yet to play this season.

Los Angeles and Dallas have already played twice this season, but both games were early in the season with very different lineups from what we will see today. The Wings won the first matchup in L.A., 84-83, but that was behind a big effort from Maddy Siegrist, who put up 15 points and eight boards. Siegrist will be out for this matchup.

The Sparks won the second matchup, also at home, 81-72, but Brink put up a double-double and Brown had 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds off the bench. However, there was one major consistent thing from both of those games that will still exist in this third matchup, and that was the shot volume from Arike Ogunbowale

Ogunbowale shot 7 of 30 from the field in the first matchup, finishing with 20 points, five assists, and five boards. In the second matchup, she shot 10 of 28 from the field for 22 points, four assists, and one rebound. She shot a dreadful 0-for-17 from downtown in the two games combined. However, the shots were there, and the Sparks allow their opponents to shoot 37.4% from three-point range, which ranks dead-last in the WNBA.

Ogunbowale shoots 34.3% from deep on the season, so those two games were very much an anomaly. While I would like to take her Over on made 3s for a bounce-back shooting performance, the odds are not great. Instead, we can roll with the Over on her point total of 21.5.

She was right at this number in both previous matchups with the Sparks despite terrible shooting, so an increased performance from downtown should have her easily surpassing this.

Sparks vs Wings same-game parlay (SGP)

Arike Ogunbowale Over 21.5 points

Dearica Hamby Over 18.5 points

Wings moneyline

Not only will Ogunbowale hit her point total, but the leading scorer for the Sparks should as well, and that is Dearica Hamby. She had 19 and 22 points, respectively, in each of the first two matchups and that was with both Brink and Brown having big scoring games. Now she will need to handle the scoring load and should be able to against the Wings.

Finally, we will finish off the parlay with the Wings to win at home. As bad as they have been recently, they have not been that bad in Dallas. They are 3-4 at home overall and three of those four losses are to Top 5 teams in the league. They will win this one.
