The Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun are both looking to make some noise in this year’s WNBA playoffs — and they collide tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena for the second time in three days.
Connecticut powered to a 93-86 win in Sunday’s matchup — led by 26 points from Brionna Jones — and enters as the favorite again here against a Seattle team that’s lost three of its past four contests. My Storm vs Sun predictions like both teams to come out firing on offense once again.
My WNBA picks take a closer look at this September 3 showdown below.

My analysis
There’s a lot to like about both these two offenses — and that’s not just an overreaction to the combined 179 points they served up on the weekend in a game that featured only seven made 3-pointers.
The Connecticut Sun shot 54% on Sunday, making it back-to-back games with 90+ points, and they’ve now poured in at least 80 in four of their last five outings.
I expect more of the same here from Connecticut, with a well-balanced attack that should pose major problems for the Seattle Storm — and that’s pushing me toward the Over.
The Storm gave up 98 points against the New York Liberty on Friday and were powerless to stop the Sun from scoring on 29 of their 50 attempts inside the 3-point line on Sunday. That spells trouble as they go head-to-head with a deep Connecticut team with the luxury of using Marina Mabrey off the bench.
But the visitors won’t shy away from a shootout, either. In Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike, Seattle has proven bucket-getters who will stretch the WNBA’s stingiest defense. Loyd finished with 27 points on 8-for-16 shooting in the Sunday matinee, and the Storm posted 86 points despite getting almost nothing from their second unit (six points).
There’s enough firepower to spark a big total, and the Over has hit in four of the last six meetings between these teams. It’s also been a winning ticket in the Storm’s past three contests, and I’m counting on the offenses to have the upper hand tonight
Storm vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)
Bouncing back from an injury scare against the Washington Mystics on Saturday, Alyssa Thomas dished out eight assists on Sunday — and she’s had more than seven dimes in five of her last eight contests.
Connecticut took a cautious approach with her minutes last time out, but I expect her workload to be back in the 30s. Surrounded by DeWanna Bonner, Brionna Jones, DiJonai Carrington, and Marina Mabray, Thomas is primed for another big game as the Sun’s best creator — and her 7.6 assists per game ranks behind only Caitlin Clark.
Skylar Diggins-Smith isn’t far off that pace with 6.5 apg in 2024, and I’m pumping up the SGP odds by including the Over on her 6.5 dimes prop.
She ended up with six assists on Sunday but had seven or more dimes in her three prior outings. Like Thomas, she’s the straw that stirs the drink for the Storm, and this clash is set up for her to keep the Seattle offense on track. It’s also a pick that aligns well with my best bet of an up-tempo, high-scoring battle.

- The hosts are also 2-6 ATS in their prior eight contests on their home floor.
