The Connecticut Sun look to stay hot while maintaining their dominance over the Indiana Fever, seeking their 11th straight win in this head-to-head Wednesday night.
However, my Sun vs. Fever predictions and WNBA picks for August 28 expect Indiana to put up a fight tonight with the host looking like a totally different team since the Olympic break.
Sun vs Fever predictions
My best bet
Fever +3.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
My analysis
The Connecticut Sun boast the league’s best scoring defense, holding teams to 73.4 points per game, and over three matchups the Indiana Fever have been held to 75.7 ppg.
However, a lot has happened since June 10, the last time these two teams met.
The Fever have been one of the better teams in the league since then, posting an 11-6 record and climbing to seventh in the standings. They're coming off an 84-79 win over the Atlanta Dream to get to 14-16 on the season — their most wins in the last five seasons — with 10 games to go.
Indiana has been scoring at an elite level during this stretch, averaging 86.6 ppg on 47.% shooting. Even if Connecticut is able to keep the scoring low, Indiana should be able to hang with its ability to score the ball and shoot at a high percentage.
This matchup is a potential first-round playoff preview, and with the Fever playing their best basketball of the year, the underdogs will give the visitors a scare.
Caitlin hotter than the Sun
My best bet
Caitlin Clark Over 20.5 points (+100 at DraftKings)
My analysis
Clark has had her problems with the Sun, having gone Under her point total in all three matchups while shooting just 38.2% from the field.
However, since the Olympic break, the favorite to take home the WNBA Rookie of the Year has been scorching with 23.5 ppg on a much more efficient 46.2% shooting. She’s failed to score 21 points just once in that streak.
Clark’s ability to score has improved as the rest of her all-around game has evolved. She leads the W in assists at 8.2 per contest, and Clark’s 3-point shooting is keeping the defense honest, hitting multiple triples in nine straight and 15 of the last 16.
Sun vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)
DeWanna Bonner is the Sun's leading scorer, but she's had a rough go lately, scoring 15 points or less in four straight games. Most notably, she's connected on just one 3-pointer in 16 attempts over that stretch. While she's scored well against the Fever, Bonner has not done well from distance, topping her 1.5 make line once on a 28.6% clip.
On the other side, Kelsey Mitchell has been gangbusters since the Olympic break.
She's averaging 26.5 points per game, topping 21 points in all four games she's played. While she's put them up against sub-par defense like Atlanta and Phoenix, Mitchell has also hung 21 on Minnesota and 27 against Seattle — a pair of Top 3 teams in the WNBA.
