The New York Liberty didn’t let the Olympic break slow their momentum. They’ve won and covered the spread in three straight games since returning to action, most recently squashing the Dallas Wings by 20 points at home Tuesday.

The spread's grown for tonight's matchup as a result, and my Wings vs. Liberty prediction is for Dallas' rotation to continue suppressing Teaira McCowan.

I break down the WNBA spread and total for this non-conference clash and give my best WNBA picks and predictions for Wings at Liberty on August 22.

My best bet
Pick: Teaira McCowan Under 9.5 Points (-132 at FanDuel)

My analysis

Teaira McCowan stayed on the floor for only 22 minutes versus the New York Liberty on Tuesday. Part of that was foul trouble and part of that was the Dallas Wings working in a brand-new rotation with returning talents in the front court.

The 6-foot-7 McCowan had her hands full with New York’s loaded frontcourt, especially with the way Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones can run the floor in the Liberty’s fast-break attack. It’s a tough matchup for the towering center, but Dallas now has added depth at forward and may roll out a smaller lineup to help run with New York.

Not only is star Satou Sabally back in action, but also fellow forward Maddy Siegrist, who played her first game Tuesday since breaking her finger back in June.

McCowan, who’ scoring more than 11 points per game on an average of eight field goal attempts, could not only see her minutes dwindle but also her touches on offense. She’s no longer filling a gap in the interior with Sabally and Siegrist demanding the ball.

Player projections for McCowan range from 8.5 to nine points over 23.5 minutes of floor time. She may not get that much run, and when she’s on the floor, McCowan is no longer an offensive option. New York's defense does a good job limiting interior scoring, ranked among the lowest in points allowed in the paint and second-chance buckets — two areas where McCowan thrives.

Wings vs Liberty same-game parlay (SGP)

Teira McCowan Under 9.5 points

Arike Ogunbowale Over 2.5 threes made

New York moneyline

McCowan doesn’t matchup up well with a Liberty frontcourt that gets out and runs, and the Wings could go small with more scoring options up front.

Arike Ogunbowale was 3-for-7 from distance against New York on Tuesday and if the score gets out of hand again, she’ll have the green light from deep.

New York has trouble against double-digit spreads so we’ll tack on the outright odds and give this SGP a little bump with minimal risk.

Wings vs Liberty spread and Over/Under analysis

• After cruising to a 20-point margin Tuesday, books opened the Liberty as 13.5-point home chalk for this second straight meeting with the Wings.

• The Over/Under total hit the board at 171.5 points — the closing total of Tuesday’s game which played Under the number. However, tonight’s total has been bet up to as high as 174.5 points as of Thursday morning.

• New York’s three-game run actually extends its winning streak to seven straight victories (7-0 ATS) going all the way back to July 10. The Liberty have laid waste to most spreads this season but are just 2-11 ATS when laying double digits.

• New York All-Star guard Sabrina Ionescu missed Tuesday’s game with a neck injury and is listed as a game-time decision tonight. Her official status will impact the spread and total, though the Liberty didn’t miss a beat with her out earlier in the week.
