Wings vs Sun Predictions, Picks, Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Despite Connecticut boasting an undefeated record heading into tonight's matchup against Dallas, Ed Scimia breaks down below why the Wings have proven stingy enough to keep things close at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Connecticut Sun will try to remain the last undefeated team in the WNBA when they host the Dallas Wings on Friday night.

The Sun (6-0) are coming off a 23-point win over the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, and are once again heavy favorites in our Wings vs. Sun predictions. However, Dallas has won two in a row and I think it can challenge Connecticut in its home-building tonight.

Wings vs Sun predictions

My best bet
Wings +9 (-108 at DraftKings)

My analysis

Although the Connecticut Sun came into 2024 with high expectations, few could have expected a 6-0 run to start the season.

Connecticut has dominated on both sides of the ball, ranking first in the WNBA in defensive rating and second in offensive rating. The Sun also have five players averaging double figures on the season, led by DeWanna Bonner (20.3 points per game).

Yet for all of its success, Connecticut hasn’t been a darling for bettors. The Sun have only covered once in their last five games, as the blowout win over the Mercury ended a streak of four wins by seven points or less.

The Dallas Wings, on the other hand, have covered in four of their five games this season. The Wings have done so as underdogs in each of their last three games — all on the road — winning two of them outright. Arike Ogunbowale is leading the league in scoring with 28.8 ppg, even managing to score 20 points against the Sparks on Sunday despite going 0-for-8 from downtown.

The Wings can’t produce the same shutdown defense as Connecticut, but they do have the offense to keep up with the Sun. Dallas gets a lot of second chances, as it leads the WNBA in offensive rebounding percentage at 40.3%, and the Wings play at the fastest pace in the league — two factors that should help them challenge the Sun defense.

In these two teams' four meetings last year, the Wings managed to win two games outright, ultimately going 2-1-1 against the spread in the season series. While the Wings may not be quite the same team without Satou Sabally in the lineup for the first half of the season, Dallas is otherwise intact from last season, when it made the league semifinals — the same stage as the Sun.

Ogunbowale alone should keep Dallas in this game, and the Wings also have enough of a post presence to challenge Bonner and Alyssa Thomas (14.5 ppg) on the boards down low. Dallas should remain competitive into the final minutes, ultimately covering what is a generous spread in tonight’s contest.

Wings vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Wings +9

Over 160

Arike Ogunbowale Over 23.5 points

The Stars should push the tempo tonight, which will help keep them in the game and boost offensive numbers. That’s why I’m also taking the Over in my same-game parlay, as the total has come down several points since opening and is now low enough to make a move on.

While I’m banking on points, I’ll also throw a bet on Ogunbowale to hit the Over on her scoring prop. The star guard has reached at least 24 points in four of five games this season.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
