Two weeks in, and the Covers Staff NFL betting competition already has some clear winners...and some clear not-so-winners. The excuses range from Jeff Driskel scoring too much against Pittsburgh to star players getting hurt in juicy matchups. But you know who doesn't make excuses?
Winners.
Week 2 saw a number of winning teasers and parlays — can these brilliant football minds keeps the momentum rolling in Week 3? In case you don't know, here's how it works:
Each week, the members of the Covers editorial staff will provide their best parlay and NFL teaser bets of the week. Teaser Picks Week 2
Andrew Caley, Senior Editor (@Covers_Caley) ***Defending Champion***
That's what the Champ likes to see!
Let's keep it rolling like a rejuvenated Cam and the undefeated Raiders. OVER. The Bengals and Eagles both look allergic to tackling and Joe Burrow might throw it 60 times. OVER. The Falcons can score but can't stop anyone, even Da Bears. OVER.
PICK: 6-point teaser (New England-Las Vegas Over 41, Cincinnati-Philadelphia Over 41.5, Chicago-Atlanta Over 41) +160
Season: +0.6 units
Jason Logan, Senior Industry Analyst (@CoversJLo)
The Vikings look lost on offense and take on run-heavy Tennessee, so I’m tacking on six to their total and going Under 55.5. Moving Rams from +2.5 to +8.5 at Buffalo and trimming Indy from -11 to -5 hosting what’s left of the Jets.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Tennessee-Minnesota Under 55.5, Los Angeles Rams +8.5, Indianapolis -5) +160
Season: -2.0 units
Rob Hansen, Content Coordinator (@Mookie_45)
The podcast thots said Odell enjoyed shit,
But in Week 2 the Browns offense improved a bit.
Hold your nose and pray,
For this stinky play.
Take the Browns, but tease them down a wee bit.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Browns -1, Packers +9, Chiefs/Ravens Over 48.5) +160
Season: +0.6 units
Rohit Ponnaiya, Digital Content Producer (@Covers_Ro)
The Packers shouldn't be underdogs against a Saints squad struggling to move the ball without Michael Thomas. The Bears stop unit isn't anywhere near as good as it was in 2018, while the Falcons are that exciting blend of high-octane offense and flag-football defense. And these aren't the offensively-inept Bills of last year: Josh Allen & Co. are third in the NFL in yards, while the Rams are fifth.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Green Bay +9, Chicago-Atlanta Over 40.5, Los Angeles Rams-Buffalo Over 40.5) +160
Season: +3.2 units
Jameson Mossman, Social Media Coordinator (@Covers_JaMo)
After watching New Orleans on Monday night it’s hard to believe they’re favored versus Green Bay; getting the Pack +9 feels like a gift. The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets...stink, stink, stink! Colts cover easily. Joe Burrow gets to a grounded Eagles team and Justin Herbert gets a Carolina team without the sizzle of Christian McCaffrey. Rookie QBs get it done Sunday.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Cincinnati +10.5, Indianapolis -5, Los Angeles Chargers -0.5, Green Bay +9) +265
Season: +0.6 units
Parlay Picks Week 2
Brandon DuBreuil, Content Manager (@CoversBD)
I hit with a five-team ML parlay last week but I'm going a bit shorter this week with a three teamer. I'm taking the moneyline with Philadelphia and Cleveland, two home teams I think will win, and using an alternate spread to bring the Colts' side through a few key numbers and down to -5.5.
PICK: Philadelphia ML, Cleveland ML, Indianapolis -5.5 (+159)
Season: +1.29 units
Jared Hochman, Publishing Editor (@JLHoch)
I was a Davante Adams wonky hamstring away from victory last week, so here’s hoping my player props stay healthy in Week 3.
I like Mike Evans to ravage the shell of a Broncos secondary. I think DK Metcalf will continue ballin’ out against 'Little D.' Then I like Terry McLaurin to have a game, as he does most of his damage on passes thrown between the numbers and Cleveland has allowed 74 percent of such passes to be completed (and McLaurin is literally all the WFT has offensively).
PICK: Terry McLaurin Over 4.5 receptions, DK Metcalf Over 62.5 receiving yards, Mike Evans Over 63.5 receiving yards (+606)
Season: -2.0 units
AJ Salah, Publishing Editor (@Salas42_)
We're freerolling a little here, somehow still in first. So we're going straight parlay this week. Hold onto your butts.
I fear for the Lions D vs. Kyler Murray's ascent after they were humiliated by Green Bay and briefly made Mitch Trubisky look like Steve Young. Speaking of the Packers, they look too strong to be given three points by the Saints sans Michael Thomas. And taking a slightly-tweaked Under in NYJ-Indy because, well... the Jets.
PICK: Arizona -5.5, Green Bay +3.0, New York Jets-Indianapolis Under 43.5 (+677)
Season: +3.25 units
Patrick Everson, Senior Writer (@Covers_Vegas)
Yeah, I'm riding favorites this week, and I'm particularly liking the Patriots. New England coming off a tough loss at Seattle, Las Vegas coming off a huge emotional home win over the Saints. Love the letdown spot.
And speaking of the Saints: similar to the Patriots, I like the bounce-back spot in their home stadium against the Packers.
PICK: New England -5.5, New Orleans -3, Arizona -5.5 (+596)
Season: +1.64 units*
*There was an error with Patrick's unit total from Week 1: he was credited as being -1.0 unit, when he should have been given +2.64 units (his three-team parlay was two wins and a push). Controversy already!
Josh Inglis, NFL Writer (@inglis_josh4)
Ok, this is the week we get on the board.
We are taking three moneylines: Arizona beats a spiraling Lions team. New Orleans bounces back in primetime versus the over-rated Packers. Tennessee gets it done on the road against the hot mess that is the Minnesota Vikings. Three MLs gets us in the black.
PICK: Arizona ML, New Orleans ML, Tennessee ML (+284)
Season: -2.0 units
1st: AJ Salah: +3.25 units
2nd: Rohit Ponnaiya: +3.2 units
3rd: Patrick Everson: +1.64 units
4th: Brandon DuBreuil: +1.29 units
T-5th: Andrew Caley: +0.6 units
T-5th: Jameson Mossman: +0.6 units
T-5th: Rob Hansen: +0.6 units
T-8th: Jason Logan: -2.0 units
T-8th: Jared Hochman: -2.0 units
T-8th: Josh Inglis: -2.0 units
