Anyone seen any odds on this fight? I'm guessing it will be Berto (-300), but I could see it opening as high as (-600). In that case, the O/U will be worth a look. Rivera's only been KO'd once in his career (by Zab Judah), but Berto should be able to match that feat.

Berto has a sexy KO ratio; & he does have the Voltage edge. But Cosme has the Experience, Resume` & Size advantages. Cosme has a pretty solid Chin as well. Berto has never been past 7 either. I'm not saying Berto won't win, but I do view Cosme as a legit test. I need to study this one a bit more.

The way I see it is that if Berto can't beat Cosme with ease, then he's overhyped. So, I guess the question is whether Berto really is the goods. If he wasn't the goods, then his promoter's wasted a bunch of time and money in bringing him along so carefully.

I am thinking that Berto will open up around -500. The kid definitely has the natural tools; power, speed, and he is a fun fighter to watch. I just hope that he keeps learning and improving and doesn't just fall in love with his power. I don't want to see him end up like a Lacy or Miranda, guys who fell in love with there power and thought that brute force could overcome skill. That's just not the way boxing works.
I am a Berto fan, see the avatar, but I am interested in seeing how he reacts when he actually faces some adversity in a fight, that is when you seperate prospect from future star. I don't think that you will see that come from Rivera though, while a step up in opposition he is there to be hit. A boxer/puncher that can move laterally is the type of fighter who could pose problems for Berto.
I think that you will see Berto really step up in class in 2008 and possibly get a title shot by the end of the year. Interesting to note, Joel Julio didn't want any part of Berto when offered a fight for the fall.

There's a good reason why the Love Child doesn't want any part of Berto. He'd get crushed by that straight right, which is appropriately pictured in your avatar. Atlas was right on when he criticized Love Child for bouncing around before setting up for a punch, as this allows his opponent time to center him up for some devastating blows. Berto's so quick and powerful that he would have no problem putting Love Child down within five rounds.

I'm not saying I'm gonna side against Berto. But Berto reminds me of DanRaf's so called (& misguided) "Love Child" JJ. Rivera may have beaten TLC last time out. But I did find it compelling to learn that Berto was sparring w/ "Winky". Also of note: expect more body-work from Berto, I'm told he put in a tough conditioning camp, & his bro' fights on ShoBox Friday nite. 14 stoppages in a row by Berto is impressing me as well, none past 7.

FNF's: I took Chazz, though I do view CW as o-ver-ra-ted. Nothing special to see in C.Dub, but he should out-class TG. Though TG has an Experience & Resume` edge here that concern me a bit. I don't like Heavyweight's that look & seem soft, like Chazz. But Griff is not a real big Heavyweight, he's listed as a Cruiser by some in fact, & he really has not beaten any1 of substance. So I'll take Chazz as the less lessor of 2 lessor Heavyweights.
Finally sided on ABerto. But only for a min.wager, as these high caliber young-guns have me, well, gun-shy (pun intended) of late. I'm still concerned that Cosme can extend AB. & could AB be uptight for the bright-lights of FNF's & to out too fast? But it was the conditioning news that put me on AB.
Took Gentleman, Road WArrior, or whatever GlenJohn calls himself thesedays, but I do wonder out loud how much longer until he grows old?
I barely like Bojado. B/c I don't like the look-ahead factor (to SF) here. Though I do view Bojado as the superior man in the Ring.
Took GDrozd & Ina on the Deutchland card, but could not pull the trigger on the other chalks, that might be a hint in & of itself.
I'm not sure if Morelo will still fight Cruz or not? That Bout may be off. But I like Cruz, as Morelo has basically never beaten any1 worth much of anything.
I like K2 on his home turf in Japan.
Not much I see worth any more than .25 unit Parlay for me this weekend. Light week for me. Been into the house real well of late, but I just don't see the kinda match-ups that I like to even approach a full unit. More & better looking fights on the horizon in the next 2-3 weeks by me.

Bigeiii: Cruz is not fighting Morelo according to Doug Fisher's article today over at Maxboxing. It really is a crappy week of action, but the schedule from August on looks sweet. Would a parlay of all those chalks mentioned above even pay out even money? Didn't see any totals you liked?
I am still thinking over a couple of totals and am down on a couple, I did tab an upset from Italy on Tuesday along with my Forrest future. I wonder if they will post odds for the non-televised co-feature Saturday night of Velazquez-Santiago.

Nope. But that's just how weak this week is Fbs. Normally I find a few (in Boxing, w/out going WNBA, NBA, CFL or NCAA) -200 to -600, then 1:1 is pretty easily obtained. Not so this week. Hence I went down to .25 units. Not a lot I like. So patience is my theme at the moment.
As for Totals: only really like the VF Baldy Total, on the UP of course. IF I had to reach, or felt real froggy: Johnson's UP might go over, as I kinda doubt he does a lot at this Age, other than just enough to win.
I suspect the better thing to do (as opposed to reaching for Totals that I personally don't have the ability to see); is wait for the FNF & Saturday Outcome Props. There will be better & safer value in a couple of those, so I suspect. Like both Baldy & VF via Decision are checking in at +money. HTH's.

How strong are you on Berto (to win, to win ITD, to win via Decision)?
I played -600 when it opened. But I'm still mildly considering a fade here. I watched some Berto footage at lunch. He's pretty chunky upstairs, (good bulk I mean), so his Weight is kinda high proportionally for his Height. I was a bit surprised to see his hand-quicks (compared to the mass he carries upstairs, he was able to fire off shots more rapidly than I expected). Berto looks like some1 who kan't stay at Welter his whole career. But how sure are you he wins? TIA.
You gonna change your avatar for each week? That might actually be kinda kool, to show whatever aspect of whichever fighter your jocking. I stuck w/ one of my logo's from one of my columns from last year. But I might could drop a Klitschko, or La Araña, or Cotto or DPdL pic in from time2time to represent for one of my boys.

I am not playing Berto, but I think that he should have no problem with Rivera. The hand speed differential should be pretty large and Rivera is there to be hit. Berto likes to load up on his shots when he is in with a guy he knows has no pop, but he may not do this as much with Rivera and instead choose to utilize his handspeed edge. I keep getting the feeling that Berto stops him late.
I've been on the Berto bandwagon since I saw him for the first time against Johnathan Tubbs on ShoBox in early 2006. The kid has the tools, but just needs to learn his craft a bit more and of course you never know about a prospect's chin until it is tested a bit. Berto has very heavy/quick hands, puts his punches together well, has a decent jab although he abandons it from time to time, and he throws one of the best uppercuts I have seen in a while.

I figured instead of starting a new thread with plays for the week I
would just keep everything in here since we had some good discussion
going. Things have to turn around for me soon, it has been a struggle
as of late.
All plays and units wagered posted 2006 Results (March-July): +19.2 units (+$1,920)
Last Week: -5.3 units (The last month has been ROUGH)
2007 to date: +8.07 units (+$807)
Friday .65 of a unit over 8.5 rounds (-130) in Castillo-Andrade 1.65 units over 9.5 rounds (-220) in Bojado-Castaneda
Saturday .10 of a unit on Lopez (+1500) vs Sahin 1 unit on Forrest (+220) vs Baldomir .18 of a unit on Baldo by KO/TKO/DQ (+550) (Forrest shoulder hedge)
Tuesday .50 of a unit on Rossitto (+500) vs Fragomeni

Also an 8 fight August and September parlay that I put together for fun Gotta love it .50 of a unit to win 15.98 Marquez-Vazquez under 9.5 rounds (-165) Caballero (-750) vs Lacierva Torres (+140) vs Holt Cintron (-1050) vs Feliciano Guerrero (-120) vs Juarez Ouma-Mora over 9.5 rounds (-250) Brahmer (-145) vs Veit Haye-Mormeck under 10.5 rounds (-170)

Fullbrights, that parlay looks great. The only one I'm iffy on is
the Marquez-Vazquez under. I was thinking that Vazquez would
fight more cautiously this time, knowing that if he gets into a brawl,
he'll have to retire early like last time. I'll have to research
it a little more, but I was considering make a play on the over if the
value's there...Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the fight, as
I'll be at Morales-Diaz in Chicago. That'll be fun, even though
Torres-Holt was on the undercard when I bought the tickets and I was
very disappointed by the shenanigans that led to that fight getting
delayed. But at least I'll get to see Mayol-Solis, which could be
a great one.

Interesting to see Bojado out-Weight RC by 6 lbs??? That's up 5 lbs. for FB. That's a lb. over the Welter limit. Don't know if that's now a catch-weight, or if FB had to or will have to cut that lb??? RC came in at his normal, & kinda low for a Welter buck42. HTH's.

I think that Marquez and Vasquez only know how to fight one way against each other and that's the way they fought the first time. I think it should be a brutal war again and a matter of who breaks first. I am not sure if Vasquez is in the right state of mind coming into this fight with all the training camp drama that he has gone through. He leaves Roach for Fortune, leaves Fortune for Goosen, and then leaves Goosen and goes back to Fortune. Not the ideal training camp.

H; I'm giving a very long look at fading Bojado, he's been know to under-train, taking 3 years off is not a good sign, & that Weight may be a tip that this under-achieving pattern has reoccurred. I read were Bojado wants to fight at 14o, he's no where near that.
I'm looking over all the FNF's Outcome Props. Berto ITD, as that pays better than I expected. (H; Berto via Decision pays pretty good as well, & the upset outcome props pay extremely well). Some very solid value here all around.
Adding G.Frag in Tuesday action, he's in w/ a little bit of a soft-touch in Vincent.R. who does not possess a Chin made of granite.

Yeah, Bojado is a buffet buster. I remember seeing a picture of him during his long hiatus and it even put Vargas and Hatton to shame.
Do you really think that G Frag. is worth laying 5-1 vs Rossitto? As you can see I took Rossito for a bit above. Rossito has been stopped 4 times (once by injury) against top top guys, but both have beaten the same caliber of fighters and both hold the homecourt. Frogomeni is 37 years old (Rossitto is 31) and will be giving up 4.5 inches in height, not the ideal 5-1 chalk if you ask me.

I'm not impressed w/ either Italian guy Fbs. Your takes' on that (per usual) are solid. I kinda like G.Frag's pedigree a bit more in this one. The Form-Guide shows that DH worked both guys, but GF did last longer, so I guess that something. Think of this as I view GF as being less inconsistent that VR. But neither is a real threat at Cruiser, & I wanted a min.wager on a Tue. Nite fight. (kinda a tribute to USA Network, back in the good ole days if you will).
As for your Bojado takes...that's pretty strong, bigger than RH who knows how to make multi Pints of hops disappear is impressive. I'd like to get an Outcome Prop here (which would pay better), but if I kan't I'll roll the dice & fade Bojado SU.

Not a big play at all, but I went ahead and put .2 unit on Castaneda. I could see a split decision upset in this one.

Just not seeing any Outcome Props to fade Bojado, w/ about 15 mins. until the FNF's telecast airs.....soooooo, I'm gonna gut it out w/ Bojado. Maybe the extra weight will increase his pop? Not seeing any Outcome Prop for Chazz either, I wanted one of those. Just CW SU now. Gonna stick w/ AB as well. This weekend may end fast for me; we shall see.

Well; Chazz is sorry, soft, & boring. Watch his lack of footwork, kinda like his feet are handcuffed together. Kind a very impoverished mans Cal Brock. Does nothing wrong, but does everything C+ quality 'cept his footwork. (CB is a B- across the board to me). Chazz will make us all some $ down the road, as people will flock to his perfect rec'.
AB had what I expected. A tougher nite than most expected. We may have seen the light that a boxer-puncher or pure boxer of a Southpaw might give him a fit down the road. Had the KD occurred a minute (or more) earlier, AB might have be in some closing trouble. AB headhunts too much as well. I've never bought in that he's all that, 2nite confirmed I was correct to me.
Johnson got all over Moore in the middle Rounds & got rid of him. Looks like he did not wanna stick around for long 2nite.
3 for 3, but I'm too tired to stay up for the 'Zona card. I'll check it tomorrow AM.
