This story is regarding JJC's twelfth professional boxing bout.
For many years the leading record books, including both Pugilato and The Ring Record Book, recorded the first loss of Julio Cesar Chavez as being by disqualification. This has since been changed to a knockout victory for Chavez, based on confirmation from the local boxing commission in Culiacan.
The very interesting part is this... Ramon Felix, manager of Chavez, happened to be a member of the Culiacan commission at the time.

So, was he 89-0-1? If Roy Jones Jr had a manager on the boxing commission when he had a DQ lost to Montell Griffith his record would have been at 49-0 (Marciano's record I mention because Roy fought and won the WBA Heavyweight Championship; Larry Holmes made it to 48-0 before losing to Spinks) before suffering a loss.

So, before we go posting big numbers (which many don't mean much) we should use a weighted ranking system that considers the level of competition, how often they fought, how often they fought the best, at what level of ease or difficulty did they win or lose a bout, how well did they perform in rematches, how well did they fight in bouts they had great adversity (cuts, swelling, etc), and so on... these are the things that helps us define a true champion and legend and helps us separate them from the fighters who were good and had great statistics but not elite.

"Chávez made his professional debut at age 17. In his 12th fight, on March 4, 1981, Chávez faced Miguel Ruiz in Culiacán, Sinaloa. At the end of the first round, Chavez landed a blow that knocked Ruiz out. Delivered as the bell sounded, the blow was ruled a disqualification in the ring. The next day,Chávez was proclaimed the winner."

Whether the punch was landed as the bell sounded or a tick after the bell isnt important....Theres a reason the Mexicans named this little bulldog from Culiacan...."MR.KO."

Should we school you on his legendary status once again ZOUK???

Considered one of the greatest fighters in history, six world titles in three weight divisions:record of 107 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws, with 89 knockouts, and a reputation as one of the best boxers of all time.He holds records for most successful consecutive defenses of world titles (27), most title fights (37), most title-fight victories (31), and he is tied with Joe Louis for most title defenses won by knockout (21).Also has the longest undefeated streak in boxing history, 13 years. His record was 89-0-1 going into his first loss. Renowned especially for his devastating left hook and his ability to take a punch due to his extremly strong chin. Made his professional debut at age 17.Grew up in an abandoned railroad car with his five sisters and four brothers. Came from a poor family and became a boxer for money, he stated: "I saw my mom working ironing and washing peoples clothes, and I promised her I would give her a house someday and she would never have that job again."

"Do you believe Chavez won that bout, or was Meldrick robbed????? I told people live, I don't know how Taylor is surviving, and they thought I was crazy....I was making a political point that a rematch would have been done...Being a pro-poker player, all you can do is get you money in when you have a big advantage, but it doesn't guarantee success...It's like a heavyweight fighter getting caught with a KO punch although he was clearly winning every round (Taylor)...I believe Chavez did so much damage he wrecked Taylor......" I made a post about Chavez and you posted 20 replies in a day. You take it so personal it is near scary and to the point of being a obsessive stalker defending the only fighter you love. You need to get off his D1C% and get a hobby.
Stop reading headlines and posting them and go to the real fight and watch. They changed it as Chavez was the upcoming money man and his manager was on the commission. Was his manager on the commission??? LOL - Next!!!

Oscar got beat by every top champion during his time. He only destroyed one fighter,,, Chavez, and both times he tore him a new one. Oscar lost to Felix, Hopkins, Mosley, Mayweather, Pacquiao, etc... and Chavez could barely make it half way through a fight.
You talk about belts, and wins... take the Oscar spanking to heart cause Chavez got owned and powned!

I think that dehoyos might actually be chavez sr as I do not ever recall him posting anything unless it has to do with chavez or chavez's old sparring partner castillio
