Don't forget 24/7 debuts this week, with some buzz around the first episode too...

well, first of all anyone that bets boxing would never, ever ,ever make the stupid comment that pbf will be the same at 40 that he is today.
period.
thats how you know the guy is full of shit. no one in the lighter weight classes(130-147) has ever been able to maintain the same level after the age of 35 in the last 20 years.
period.
for the record, i only have a small play on ortiz because it is impossible to time when a fighter gets old.
pbf the same fighter now as when he hits 40?
what a fucking tool.
even pbfhimself would never say that.

walktheline: walktheline: "Umm, chill son!" (LOL- I think your ignorance shows asking me to stop posts where other members thank me for posting accurate and entertaining posts. Just take a look. You mock me cause I did card counting. I use to travel all the way to Turning Stone Casino in NY when it first opened to bet single deck Blackjack and the dealers cut around 10 cards deep. Within one year they stopped single decked and never went back to it. My largest wagering event for winning in one day is 340k playing 4k-8k mixed 6 game poker at the Baldwin room in Bellagio. I never cashed more than 200k in any tournament but rarely played many large ones.
It seems you have animosity deep inside and if you don't want to read my posts, then don't REQUOTE the entire post and comment on your limited capacity. Besides betting boxing, I boxed along with MMA for many years. Posts from the 50's? I was replying to several of thesoulpurpose's posts. I'm so unknowledgeable I'm the only person who posted what the odds of Tyson vs Holyfield II...why? Because I remember betting it and big along with the first bout. I could see your statement on a direct attack but why would people be naive to believe a counted cards? It was my first gambling game I could win consistently. I use to handicap CFB and win, but lose it all to NFL. Also, when I was younger I didn't have bankroll management and knowing how to get the best +EV as little expereince, no internet and few accurate good books on handicapping and betting were not available.
Your comments like ADD and Eastside GOAT threads, and I assume hustler was negatively meant. Learn to put aside your personal issues and be objective and enjoy a forum instead of trying to insult and degrade fellow members, that is mere childish. Grow up and learn to communicate like an adult. Also, try and get a rebate on your Ortiz wager now because Berto was way over-rated and Ortiz even struggled getting knocked down and hurt. Remember, no matter how good of a value you can get on a wager you like, it's irrelevant if you lose.
Qncyk1: You found a partner. You took my Floyd statement and misunderstood the point of the thread. In the future I will make short simple posts so you aren't confused. My point was with thesoulpurpose regarding older fighters and many who have taken care of their bodies and have not had fights that take time of your career can compete at elite level at older ages. Also, if you think Floyd just relies on speed (which goes first with age), think again. He is highly intelligent fighter. Name other fighter who you think are better ring technicians?
walktheline: You are a big fan of 24/7. Another promotional tool to sell tickets at higher prices to simple minded boxing fans. Besides 90% of it being irrelevant to the fight, it's a soap opera. Father and son had a big argument, that was breaking news. At the Oscar fight Floyd Sr. stated he thought his son lost. He took an emotional trigger shot at his son live on PPV.

pbf is an extremely intelligent fighter who can make great adjustments. however, he is 34 and relies on speed and reflexes, the first thing to go in a fighter(legs).
name one fighter at 130-154 that had success after the age of 35.
i'm only asking for one.
thats what pbf is up against.

uh not so fast, pal.
willie pep got ko'd at 36. he then came back to fight a total of ten times at the age of 42 and went 9-1.
that coming against competition with a combined record of 60-93. the best fighter he faced in that span was one tommy haden, who sported an impressive 12-12 record.
do you have any more examples?
see, if you didn't act like you knew everything then you wouldnt be getting you ass handed to you.
pbf the same fighter at 40 as today?
oh my.

you won? with willie pep? no one here believes in your willie pep or your ridiculous theory that pbf will be the same fighter at 40 that he is today. noone.
i asked for an example of a 130-154 fighter that has been successful after the age of 35. i refuted pep because of his subpar competition(detailed in my previous post) and that he was not indeed successful against elite competition let alone b-level competition. i've got 685 posts on the ESB forums(under the same monicker), the premier boxing website. in fact, the only reason i started an account here on covers was to specifically thank one of the best cappers here on the baseball forums, Bodio.
you should read Bodio's stuff. he doesnt act like he knows everything nor does he condescendingly talk down to people.
he gets respect because he deserves it.
you maybe right in that pbf dominates ortiz, possibly the way he did hatton. although i do not believe that this is a fair comparason as ortiz is a southpaw, faster, a true ww and has power in both hands, they do share the same fighting style.
i have yet to read anyone in the boxing world that believes that the pbf/ortiz fight is a tune-up for pbf.
in fact, its been suspiciously quiet.

On you homepage, you stated that you are from New York and of the age of 31-35.
And in this post you proclaim to be counting cards since 1992. Did you have a fake ID to get into the casinos at the age of 16?
You also proclaim to have won 87k on Holy/Tyson 2 in 1997.
Congradulations. I believe that you are in the class of .00001 percent of all COVERS bloggers that have won 80k or more on a single betat or under the age of 21.
Probably .000001 percent of the entire US population.

Post #37: I answered your question, now you add more to your question.
Post #38: No, I did not pick Haye. I didn't bet the fight but if I did I liked the over.
Post #39: No, I did not use a fake I.D. Use a little knowledge and know that NY casino's as I stated (and others in the northeast) are Indian Casinos. The age for many is 18, especially NY because they don't give liquor license to the Casino. I was 18 when I started (counting cards; tedious but was fun at first and not worth the time with such restrictions and no mid-shoe entry. Usually when a new Casino opens they are soft on spotting counters. No, I didn't have a team like the books and show (21). They use to come to Turning Stone for the single deck shoe as well, but that lasted less than a year.
I was 23 for Tyson vs Holyfield II.
I have a story from 2005 about a 21 year old poker pro that I was friends with. He even played in Larry Flynt's private home game (7-Stud 1k-2k). Towards college bowl season he was betting 10k on many games. He currently owed about 500k in loans. He got even, was betting 250k across the board was up just over 6 million. I pleaded with him to quit or put aside 4 million but he played it through. The following 10 days he lost back all winnings and owed near 3 million. Anyone who reads this and played pro and high stakes (basically the highest) knows who I am speaking about. Now thats is close a the legendary story of Archie Karas who was up near $40 million at craps and most was at Binions where they stated they were concerned. Naturally, he lost it all back and more. I didn't know Archie or was I around during his legendary streak in 1992-1994, but I was in the same room at Bellagio as a kid was betting $250k on games (and he often had $3 million riding; $6 million swing). If you are unfamiliar with highstakes gambling and poker and about the insane loans people give out, go to carplayer.com and read how David "Chino" Rheems is broke having won near $5 million in poker tournament earnings.
The latest win was $20k buy-in, and he won $1 million but they froze it because other people but up the buy-in money or had percentages or loans. Epic Poker League's Standards & Conduct Committee places Chino Rheem on probation, freezing his winnings for having a bad reputation with paying back backers (stakers, etc). Big controversy whether it is the tournaments responsibility for Chino to pay his IOUs the way they see fit (which has never been done) or at his discretion. Also, 90% of these loans there is no written agreements.
thesoulpurpose: Nice post. Someone mentioned him a few weeks ago in a discussion we were having.
walktheline: I haven't forgotten your post and I will find or re-write the post I had saved about the fight matchup. Mostly Ortiz is still green and lacks needed ring experience for Floyd. Floyd is taking the fight now cause he rarely takes risks and can see the public view of Ortiz's growing popularity, and even as strong and talented he makes to many mistakes.

Nice post. I entirely forgot about azumah nelson, who successfully fought against solid competition unitl his late 30's. but the point has been irrefutably made that it is extrmely rare for a lighter weight fighter to successfully fight into his late 30's. great fighters such as tszyu, pea, dlh, chavez, mosely, pryor, srl, winky and trinidad all faded badly at the end and realized that they could no longer compete at the level they were accostumed to. pbf is right at that age(35) of decline. and as you have pointed out, he may no longer have the passion for the game.
i dont think that the ortiz fight will be nearly as easy as some people think. in fact, i read nothing from current or past boxer saying as such.
and if pbf suffers an acccidental headbutt(not uncommon between orthodox and southpaws) the odds will drastically increrase in favor of ortiz, a 5-1 dog.

they would probably turn it into a movie. you would be famous, have tons of fans and wouldn't have to post here anymore.

Floyd is taking the fight now cause he rarely takes risks and can see the public view of Ortiz's growing popularity, and even as strong and talented he makes to many mistakes.
they would probably turn it into a movie. you would be famous, have tons of fans and wouldn't have to post here anymore.

Qncyk1: Post from another thread "Azumah Nelson vs Jeff Fenech I was outside at Mirage. Nelson stated after he suffered from left elbow problems and battled Malaria up until a week prior to the fight. Regardless, after the scorecard announcement it had to be the most silent crowd of roughly 40,000 people I've ever witnessed. People weren't protesting, they were in total shock and waiting for the prank to be over and hear the real scorecards. thesouldpurpose, thanks for the memory. I felt for Fenech who fought his heart out and won only to be cheated. After that Fenech was never the same."
thesoulpurpose: I agree about Floyd. Ortiz lacks ring experience and Floyd is a very well experienced. Ortiz keeps his hands down way to much when he starts throwing, and Floyd can maneuver and use angles and chop Ortiz down. If Ortiz allows Floyd to hit him like Berto did, it won't last to a decision. Cuts and swelling are a problem if he gets hit often. Berto lacked power although many disagree, seeing him ringside twice he hit opponents hard and clean with huge shots and they barely rocked. Also, because Ortiz is a southpaw Floyd knows how to avoid head clashes and I would be suprised if they collided heads.
