I spent a rather boring Friday night at home drinking a few cold ones and watching that damned blue turf after calling in "sick." Anyways, I decided after the game that it would be a good time to watch some Hopkins/Pavlik tapes. Luck for me, HBO replayed Pavlik/Taylor and Tarver/Hopkins. I noticed something that more than caught my eye.
The only time we've ever really seen Pavlik in trouble is against Taylor. Emanuel had the correct game plan, just the wrong fighter. When Pavlik is walking people down with the jab/straight right, he is wide open to get "pot shots" if you get off before him, kind of like jumping a route. He is walking forward.. jump in throw a right hand over the jab or a body shot to throw off the timing, then hold. A Hopkins special. I also feel the only reason he beat Taylor twice was the fact that the Taylor's eye was swollen bad from the jab, making it only a matter of time before a big straight right followed.
In the Tarver/Hopkins fight and the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight Bernard did a great job at landing shot on these fighters on the way in. See the flash knockdown vs Calzaghe or the entire Tarver fight for an example of my theory of disrupting a high pressure fighter's timing. I also feel that Pavlik's chin may still be a problem.
Listen, I know Hopkins is old as dirt and has faded late in recent fights. However, Pavlik looked sluggish with the extra weight in the rematch with Taylor. I think that lack of speed will exploit him even more against a solid vet with a game plan in Hopkins. Also, how will Pavlik be late in the fight after wrestling with Hopkins all night? Can Hopkins really pull this out? Maybe. Is it worth +350? You bet your ass it is.

this is useless without your risk. how much are you laying down on your plays.
Really , what the hell is the difference . The guy laid out his pick and reason why he likes it. Right, Wrong, or Otherwise he gave it to you. Fictional wagers are the norm here at covers anyways. What would you like to see him lay down on it champ?

I agree with you walktheline, Hopkins has a big chance to win tonight. This is the first real test for Pavlik.I dont see a ko or tko unless theres an ugly cut or a major injury during the fight.I ve never seen a cut in Pavlik or Hopkins faces yet,so they dont get cut easily, thats another good sign.

I like the over also, and hopkins certainly has a chance, but it's impossible to tell if this prick is a winner or a loser over the long run (or even tonight if you don't know what he wagered on the 2 picks and hopkins happens to lose)

What the hell is the difference if you don't know what his bankroll is assclown. Start over champ and ask the right questions before you get answers that have no relevance to what you are looking for. Dumb asssssssssssssssss . His 10,000.00 might be a dribble on this fight if you don't see his pocket.

You truely are a moron assmaster2000. Ok he's risking 10,000 apples. Now use your crayons and chart him on your fisher price board. LMAO. And who the fuck is we? I don't see anyone else going into these threads but you asking for your pointless unit garb. People share there thoughts and you demand units risked. I think your useless. If they wanna keep track they will if not blow yourself. keep track of your own monopoly money wagers and leave the rest of the board alone.

Cap - this "prick" is a solid winner over the long run, I think that some of the boxing posters could vouch for me. Also, stop with all the bullshit. I didn't say anything to you or about you.
On another note, I LOVE Michigan +24.5 today if that counts.

just want to know your risk. i think they're both reasonable picks, but the picks are useless without the units risked.
especially if you are respected...i think the risk unit wise is equally as important as the picks.
good luck with them, though likely we'll never know if you lost money or made money on this.
michigan +24.5? when's that

ok... well put more to win on the over than you have risked on hopkins is my advice.
That was my first thought - that way I could "freeroll" a Hopkins win if it goes the distance. However, the juice is a bit too high for my taste and I want to go for the homerun with the Hopkins play. Just really like him in this spot against a fighter with a limited number of big fights and lacking sound mechanics.
