How could anyone in their right mind lay that kind of chalk on Jones?? Hes only had two fights since he lost to Traver in Oct of 05 ......and they both went twelve rounds....Dont get me wrong, I really like Roy, he was once the best pound for pound boxer in the world. He is 51-4 ( should be 52-3 cuz that DQ versus griffin in 97 sucked cuz he was whoopin his ass.....he ko'ed him 6 months later in the 1st round....)
On the flip side, trinidad hasnt fought since 05 when he lost to winky wright, and hes only won 2 fights since 01. But, he is 42-2 lifetime.....
This fight will be at 170 pounds....5 less than Jones weighed when he won his belts, and 10 more than tito has ever fought with....
Bottomline..... I think Tito at +350 is great value....he can punch and is a warrior....I dont see him getting knocked out and I think if he can land a few shot has a great chance.....
any thoughts??

Roy is going to destroy Tito. Trinidad has not carried his power with him in fights above 147. He will look small and slow against Roy, and there is little doubt in my mind he will be stopped. He was broken down and destroyed by Hopkins at 160. Roy's best fighting weight is literally 30 pounds heavier than Tito's. There is no way weighing 170 will increase his power, if anything it will slow him down. This fight is a joke. Tito needs money. Roy needs an easy fight. That's the only reason it makes sense.

If Roy doesn't re-think his post-Ruiz tactic of spending a lot of time on the ropes things could get very interesting at some point. A consistent jab has been the key to beating Tito, not one of Roy's specialties.

I don't think you can carry a 2 by 4 into the ring so what the hell is Roy gonna kill him with?
A steady diet of straight right hands. Tito gets stopped in this one before the 8th round. Roy has been knocked out by big, physical light heavyweights. Tito has been knocked out by a middleweight and dominated by a junior middle. I see no way for him to make this a competitive fight. If Roy doesn't move as well as he used to, how do you think Tito will look after a 3 year layoff. This fight is a joke, and it should be a crime for HBO to televise it.

I tend to agree with you on this.

I'd like to think that the only way RJJ loses this fight is if he is paid off to do so.. For an old man, he looked decent in his last two fights. Two things worry me, 1) MSG is big upset territory 2) huge trend of chalk winning on HBO. I just don't know how Tito can win this fight. I'll probably just watch or take the underdog on the over/under. Looks like the Over.

Larry take the free money on Roy. You've already said it yourself. Tito simply has no way of winning. Roy could pot shot him for 12 rounds, staying away completely. Roy could sit down on combinations, hurt, and finish Tito. The only thing that you should maybe think about is Don King, who obviously has cheated and will cheat again. But ask yourself, does King even believe he could sell a rematch if Tito is given a bogus decision here? Not a chance in hell. He's not been able to sell tickets to this fight yet. Also, from the photos and footage I've seen, Tito doesn't even look in shape. He looks a lot worse than Winky did at 170 this summer. If he hasn't trained hard, Tito will tire out following Roy around the ring, and he will get stopped. There's just no way his style could ever bother Roy though, not even in his prime.

Yes, yes I agree, Tito's style against RJJ means he needs to get lucky to win. But I really don't like to lay that much chalk in a fight. The highest I'll go is probably around -260.

If he were say a Jeff Lacy, or some one else 20 pounds heavier than Tito, then I would agree he needs to be lucky. But Tito doesn't have the power at this weight to affect Roy Jones.

If Miguel Cotto hit Roy Jones the same way Tarver smacked Roy with that
counter left (in Jones-Tarver II), do you think that Roy wouldn't have
gone down?

You're asking me if Cotto at 147 punches as hard as Tarver at 175? No. But I do think if Tarver had hit Shane Mosley as much as Cotto did, he would have stopped him.
