Antwone Smith vs. Richard Gutierrerz Smith +125 (Bodog), 0.75 unit Smith by 10 Round Decision +397 (5Dimes), 0.25 unit
Gutierrez seems to have lost a bit of his zeal for boxing since getting knocked out in a brutal contest against hard-hitting Alfredo Angulo. Since that loss, Gutierrez has only had one other fight (in July 2008), and that was a disappointing draw to journeyman Jerome Ellis. If Gutierrez was serious about his boxing career, he would have scheduled something after that setback to restore his confidence. Instead, he's matched up tonight against the surging and active Antwone Smith, who is eight years younger and has already fought twice in 2009. Smith isn't a particularly hard hitter, but he's quick with good boxing skills. In fights that are essentially "even money" on paper, the guy who wants it the most usually ends up the winner. I see Smith as being that guy on the rise who won't be denied tonight. Also, I'm throwing a bone at the decision prop because I see that as the likeliest of outcomes given that Smith isn't a big puncher, and Gutierrez' only KO loss came against Angulo. Since Gutierrez has some firepower, Smith will likely employ a box-and-move strategy to avoid the possibility of getting caught.

Obviously this is already past the pick of a fight, but Smith is doing something interesting.. he is using his left elbow as a defense, this is working great for him on the inside, but is useless on the outside because he will be susceptible to an uppercut!
Again I love this on the inside using the elbow as a guard, but NOT from a distance.
I see Gutiterez being rather "slow" with his punches, seems as his muscles are making him "Push" his punches... this is early round 4 but if Smith keeps using that elbow from the outside he will be HURT badly by an uppercut, on the inside it works beautifully!Inside for SMITH with that elbow and he can win but he MUST NOT use that defense on the outside as it's inviting an uppercut all night. I think Smith can break down Gutierez and stop him if he keeps it on the inside!
Good fight... for ESPN!

I didn't see the first 2 rounds but Smith WON every round from 3-10 he had Gutierez pretty much out on his feet since round 8, Guiterez was out of gas and had nothing.
I really like Smith, this guy can ROLL punches, something I haven't seen in a long time. I want to see this guy again. I feel he may be avoided down the road because he has great defense, and can make people look bad and he lacks that money punch!
I just seen the score cards.. 96-94? Was Guiterez's father scoring the fight? I didn't see the first 2 rounds but Smith WON rounds 3-10 EASILY he pounded Guiterez's to the body, I hope people saw that he was going VERY good to the BODY!
This guy may not get a title shot at 147 because of the top dogs duking it out for the next few years but I can see Smith in a few years definitely holding a title!
Congrats to A2c on BOTH wins and for bringing this fight to my attention, because SMITH is the real deal only 22 and I like what he offers.. just stuck in a 147 division that is jam packed right now!
