smashes TV ratings record for women's basketball

The women’s national championship game Sunday smashed a TV ratings record for the most-watched women’s basketball game ever, according to ESPN.

The number of viewers peaked at 24 million and drew an average of 18.7 million viewers.

ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro called it "a fitting finale" to the most-viewed ever NCAA women’s basketball tournament.
"These exceptional athletes, coaches and teams captured our attention in unprecedented ways and it’s incumbent on all of us to keep the incredible momentum going," Pitaro said. "I’m also very proud of our talented and committed employees for how they presented this historic event."

The previous record for the most-watched women’s basketball game was set just two days earlier during the Final Four semifinal game between Iowa and Connecticut. That game averaged 14.2 million viewers, according to ESPN, which televised the game during a historic women’s NCAA Tournament for TV ratings.

Caitlin Clark is reportedly set to wear her own signature Nike sneaker in the WNBA.

Clark helped lift women’s college basketball to new heights, became the leading scorer in NCAA basketball history and was taken as first pick in the WNBA draft. Now she’s set to sign an eight-year deal worth up to $28 million with Nike, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Athletic has reported that Clark’s deal includes a signature Nike shoe.

Former Oregon State standout center, Raegan Beers, is transferring to Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-4 rising junior post led the Beavers in scoring
and rebounding last season with 17.5 points and
10.6 rebounds per game, while also boasting the
top field goal percentage in the country (66.4%).

*If she stays injury free, I expect the Sooners should move up from #21 to around #14 or so. Meanwhile Ore.State loses 2 key starters and likely to fall out of the top 25.

This starts with Talia Von Oelhoffen, who transferred to USC from Oregon State during the offseason. She is entering her fifth season of college basketball after four years with the Beavers, where she averaged 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game through her career.

The University of Iowa standout and Indiana Fever guard reached the milestone on Saturday, July 6, in a game against the New York Liberty. A rebound with less than three minutes left in the game put Clark, 22, in the record books. She ended the game with 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds in an 83-78 Fever win.

Clark’s first triple-double of her career came over halfway into her rookie season in the WNBA.
