Here we go again......the Terps getting disrespected, this time at home. Granted, this has been a very difficult season to be a Terp fan. We have seen a few ups and a bunch of downs but all in all, we just aren't the dangerous team we typically are night in and night out. Most of that has to do with the fact that the team is absent ANY big man. The Terps are loaded with guards and a good forward who is playing out of position but inside, we are WEAK.
The Terps stay competitive on the boards in most ACC games but typically get outrebounded by 3-7 boards. When the shots are falling for the Terps, they can play with anyone in the league. When they are not, the team has the potential to be blown out (see Dook, Gtown, Zags and Clemson games). Enough of the negative, now on to the match-up at hand, the Tarholes.
Maryland went to UNC a couple fo weeks ago and lost by 16. They scored in the 90's and lost by 16! The Holes are starting to round into the form many expected at the beginning of the seaosn. They are solid all over the court: inside, outside and they play EXTREMELY fast and uptempo. However, this is the way the Terps like to play also. In fact, becuase the Terps take care of the ball VERY well (top 2 in the ACC in assists and assist/turnover ratio), playing up tempo is a good thing. Cliff Tucker, a Terp reserve, has a big game at UNC because he is the Terps best player in transition. The Terps will be fine running with UNC today, they will welcome it. Half court play is not the Terps strength with no big man.
The over should hit easily (162). The Terps catching this many at home (+12.5) is very attractive also. In the game at UNC, the Holes hit 16 three pointers......they could not miss. I do not see them doing it again today. I think that both teams will score a bunch but playing in front of a sold-out crowd at home, backs against the wall, slight Dance hopes on life-support, the Terps will be up for this one. They HAVE to win at least one of Dook, UNC or Wake and really two of them. I will admit this is the least likely place to pick up a win of those three but hey, I did not think my Terps had any shot at the SU win at UNC last season and Gary found a way!
