BirdS take on SMC vs ZAGS

Also i am not trying to take anything away from SMC backers i just have not seen a write-up with anyone to back them up so i figured i would throw this out here...

Starting to look at this more and seeing the Zags as a near 20 point winner.
 
The Zags have the capabilities of ripping them to shreds tonight from beyond-the-arc.  I'm banking on them being on, otherwise, I think Patty Mills has the advantage in finding the open look off screens for easy layups with Sanhan and co. 
 
Just hoping we don't have to worry about that with the Zags shooting Mary's out of it early.

Yeah I like Downs a lot. That guy can be huge.  If he and Daye are on - watch out!

Both teams have trouble with their half court set O's.  Do you think either team hunkers down on D?.  Or are they both too insecure about their own Half Court Offenses to slow the game down?

Basically do you think we'll see a fun up and down, fast paced game?

I already stated this but here it is again, home court means a lot to this team. Since the 5yrs McCarthey Athletic Center has been open, Zags are 32-1 vs, WCC. The home team has won the last 8 in this series. And, Zags did beat St.Mary's by 11 and 12 the past 2 yrs, but both times they had to pull away in the 2nd Hf as they were only up by 2 @ HT. Take smc 1st hf, Zags for the game.

I gotta roll with my boys tonight up in Spokompton.  I was expecting this game to come out around -5 and when I saw they were laying 9 I had to jump all over it.  I don't think the Gaels get as much credit as they deserve because of their weak schedule and these guys have had this game circled on the schedule for awhile now.  9 points just seems like way too many considering how the team has been playing of late.  Its going to be an unbelievable game to watch, back and forth all night, and I see either team winning by no more than 5 or 6 points.  GO GAELS!!!

True, Bird.

The Zags have incredible home court advantage.  The students camp out in line for days to get tickets and then camp out some more after that(before the game).They had the longest home court win streak in the country for a while there.

They hate St. Mary's, especially Samhan.  He feeds off it though.  So it is a push there.

IMO this is a great watch game and a poor bet game. there r several better wager games on the ticket.

Well you have to guys that handle the rock on eachh side that typically like to score. They are really not trur point guards IMO. What I mean by that there not a TY LAWSON, DARRIN COLLISON, or LeVance Fields. These are 3 guys that come to mind that would much rather distribute the ball at all times and then take show through the offense. I think thats why you see these 2 teams are sometimes uncapable of going through there offensive sets.

I would assume uptempo but if Mills is off there in for a long night and the Defensive end of the ZAGS will exploit that down the stretch...

I was leaning Gonzaga -8 this morning, but personally am only playing St. Mary's 1H.  It's at +5 right now and I'm hoping it gets to +6 by tip off.  I feel there will be about 4 pt lead at halftime, but the  Zags should pull away late in the 2H.

My concern with StM in 1st half would be the week layoff.  Might take them some time to get in a rythm.

A week layoff?  They just played on Sunday, which is 4 days ago. You don't think they're not practicing hard this week for this big game? This is their game of the year, they could become 1st place in the conference with this win. The last two years it was a 2 point game at halftime. I would be shocked if it was higher then 5 point difference at halftime.

Have the Zags by 14 in this one.  Laying 9 however, is pretty steep but prefer the fact that the Zags are at home.  The Zags however, are the best team in the WCC and I feel as if they make a statement tonight since they are top dogs in the WCC.  BOL Bird

This line seems high... but I doubt its too high. Books must be expectin Zags to make a statement; else this line would be 4 to 6.  
 
I think we'll see a supreme effort from Zags. Comfy DD .

Leaning towards St Mary's +9.   The total set at 143.5 gonzaga is 1-7 ATS in last 8 with total in the 137.5-145 range and St.Mary's is 7-1 ATS YTD with total in the 142.5-155.5 range.  In addition Six of last 9 meetings have been decided by 8 points or less.  At 17-1 St. Mary's is flying under the radar.

Ok boys this is going to be a great game tonight. 2 of the best come into this match-up that are both trying to make some noise once again this year for the season. This line opened at 8 with roughly 70% backing SMC now were up to 9 and the PUB is still pounding SMC at 75%. SMC is very good dont get me wrong but i am not impressed with the schedule and the talent of players they have competed against so far this season compared to the ZAGS. I think that is why we see this line at 9. Along with the fact the ZAGS have been rolling since TENN and have just been dismantling teams like they should. I honestly think the ZAGS present more match-up problems for a lot of teams in the country. There big, athletic, and almost all of them can shoot from anywhere on the floor. This is by far may be the best ZAGS team we have seen and they will make some noise this March. Patty Mills and Pargo are going to be a great match-up tonight. But the 2 players i really love for this ZAGS team is Bouldin and Daye when these 2 are on this team is tough to beat. I think the ZAGS defense and bench will go a long way in this match-up. I think if your considering backing SMC i would wait til the rematch at there place. Also if you have noticed in this match-up the ZAGS are a perfect 5-1 whren laying single digits to SMC. But like i said the soft schdule of SMC is only going to hurt them for this game tonight. They are no where near prepared to play a team like this compared to what the ZAGS have faced this year. Also the fact of a deeper bench and better D will go a long way for the ZAGS. I am still holding off on this but if anything its ZAGS or no play for me. BOL all in what you deicde.

Bird great points as always that you bring up my only problem is the amount of points being given I mean I think the Zags are a better all around team and have played better competition but St. Mary's is no push over and I think they will keep it close if they do lose it will be a close game and that is why I am laying it down with St.Marys tonight not locked in yet though I want to see what the line does a little more BOL my man and glad to see you back posting!!!!
