Hamilton was not a great defender at UConn or in his early NBA days. Jimmer will need to develop his defensive skills as he matures.

Rip will go down as one of the best off the ball offensive scorer the past 20 years. Rip was actually a bust in the NBA until he was placed in a system that fit his skill. Reddick stretches the floor for his team with his shooting. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor and has size for his position. The latter better work on being a PG or HE WILL NEVER see an NBA court. Jimmer is the next great white hope that we see every few years that never pans out. Jimmer cannot make it in the NBA as a 5'11 SG with no ball handling skill. He needs to become a PG who can slide to the combo position with a true PG on the court. It doesnt matter if you can shoot lights out...they're NBA players who make millions just to defend the likes of Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. I dont think covering a 5'11 kid will be that hard for them especially when they are 6'8''.

Lets enjoy Jimmer for what he is and not get ahead of ourselves. Jimmer is a great college "scorer." Just like Adam Morrison and JJ Reddick were.

Thorpe has pointed out that in college, Morrison was taller than his defenders, and could score unmolested. Now that he has long NBA athletes in his grill, however, his shooting percentage has plummeted. He has shied from attacking the hoop where he has an array of floaters, and has instead been shooting jumpers with hands in his face. And it's no secret that he struggles to guard people at this level.

Fatal flaws? Is he as bad as it appears he might be? Is a guy who has some things to address like every young player, or is it possible he's not really cut out to play at this level?


Morrison was 6'8...Jimmer is 5'11

Do you really believe that Jimmer will be able to shoot over 6'5 - 6'8 players. Or beat them off the bounce and finish over 7 footers?

Come on people...hell I have never seen Jimmer dunk let alone finish at the rim against a Pro level defender.

Jimmer is still 6'2".  More than likely he doesn't do anything in the NBA.  He's a spot up shooter in the NBA.   Thats it.

If Jimmer is 5'11 then he has shown that he has no trouble getting his shot off against taller guys. On the other had no games against taller wings to show this ability.

Also, anyone with half a brain new he'd be a bust.

Redick is not very good but gets to be a shooter on a team which has Jameer Nelson to run their offense and Dwight Howard to man their defense.

He won't be anywhere near as productive unless he is playing for a select group of about 5 or 6 teams.

You could be correct Smoke.   I'm not a big Jimmer fan.  I'm enjoying his college thing now.  All I can say about him in the college game is he is a gamer and comes to play every night.  He is fun to watch.  I still don't think his game translate's to a good NBA game.  More so a decent bench guy.

good call, they are both white so lets call them the same player.

Jimmer's skills are above and beyond AM.  The reason that Kemba and Jimmer are so good is that they are the only two players in NCAA that can consistantly create space whenever they want. no need for me to go on and on.  AM never was

he's been playing in the MWC.....seriously, how many pro caliber guys are coming out of that league?  i play pick up ball with some guys who could score against the players in the MWC

Adam Morrison had something that neither of those players have: a true scoring mentality

You can say that Jimmer or Kemba have it, but Morrison exemplified the art of scoring when he wanted to.  Jimmer and Kemba can fit into small spaces and maneuver around defenders, but they can get blocked easily

Morrison could drive the line, pull up for the jumper, run around the screen for a 3, and go right at a guy right down the lane.  Walker and Jimmer have to avoid the 6'11'' guy under the basket ----> they HAVE to have space to score the majority of the time.  Morrison could score with someone attached to his hip

Jimmer's release is about a full second quicker than Morrison. Morrison wasn't a great athlete (Jimmer is an above average athlete), but the difference is definitely the release. At the very least, Freddette is a three-point specialist in the league.

Why does he have to be just compared to other white players, seems to me he was beating black and white competition..  Same haters on here with the racial undertones.  Look past the skin color and see the skill. He may or may not be a good or great NBA player but that will be decided in the future. Right now he and Kemba Walker are dominate forces in the College world, Regardless of their COLOR...  Stop Hating and appreciate the talent.

I have to double laugh at this.

Richard Hamilton does not "put the ball on the floor" and score. He comes off screens and has a quick pull-up. His height has nothing to do with it; he has incredible stamina and ran through multiple screens to get open shots.

Jimmer is capable of the same concept. I'm not a Jimmer fan (SEE: "CBS Announcers Love Them Some Jimmer"), but even I can understand his quick release will be an asset to an NBA team.

Rip Hamilton puts the ball on the floor and scores. Classic.

If you need more evidence of Jimmer's ability to come off a screen and quickly pull up for a jumpshot, go back and watch the SET PLAY BYU ran for him towards the end of the 1st half . . .

He gives the ball up, gets a quick screen, sees a slight break from the defender and gets the ball back, immediately pulls up and . . . well, you know the rest.

The reason players usually measure about 2" shorter than their listed height is because at NBA draft camp they are measured with their shoes off. Schools usually list players heights with shoes on, so about 2" difference.

People forget how good Morrison was in college. He was the 3rd player picked in the draft. His college numbers compare favorably to Jimmer's.

NBA comparison to Ferdette would be (imo) Korver, Ben Gordon, Nate Robinson, JJ Redick... off the bench guys and lacking defense or undersized

Its a stretch to equate him to Curry because Curry has better court vision and ability to pass. Entering the draft, Curry was recognized as the best passer in college. This allows him to be a starting point guard in the NBA.

My point is that Jimmer is Reddick with much better passing ability. Not as good a passing ability as Seth Curry
