Bad weekend overall. All of the toss-ups went the other way (TCU, Georgia State, late blown Maine cover)...until today. I hit my co-largest play of the season with Loyola (MD) -6.5 (other 3-unit bet was the SMU-Colorado State over on November 14th). Still sitting on an Arkansas State +10/ML play that is very much up in the air...
I'm obviously not counting it on my record as it was only posted on the 140-character site, but I feel much more relaxed after a terrible three-day stretch.
On to tonight...
South Alabama +9.5 (1 unit) South Alabama ML (0.25 units)
I really love this Denver team and have selectively backed them this year (at home) with great success. They share the ball effectively and play a controlled tempo. Still, there are some glaring problems tonight. The first issue is a 7-day layoff. For a team like Denver, which cannot rely on athleticism (outside of Udofia) and needs to play with rhythm in order to succeed, a week away from game competition is likely a problem. As we're seeing right now with this ASU/Middle Tennessee game, top seeds often struggle against lower-seeded teams who have already become acclimated to the tournament setting. To be certain, South Alabama is not a particularly sound team and has a number of flaws. Adjusting from last night's up-and-down game against Troy to the more plodding style of Denver will not be easy. With that said, though, the Jaguars are phenomenal on the offensive glass and have a number of slashers who can get to the rim at will. The primary focus of Denver's defense is to shut down the perimeter (#9 in 3PTA/FGA), but USA has little reliance on the 3-ball. Denver has struggled in the past with small, athletic teams who can penetrate their defense; South Alabama fits that bill tonight. It's also worth noting that Denver has struggled mightily at low altitude. South Alabama will have a major advantage in fan support, as well.
Good luck to all.

I'm with you on South Alabama. Keep working hard though, I really enjoy reading your write ups. What do you think about the Drexel VCU matchup tomorrow night?

Thanks man. Very likely going to be on Drexel. It'll be difficult with the Richmond crowd and officiating, but I've been in love with Drexel all year and love their balance and rebounding.

Very cool. Do you think it will be a pick?

Where do you project the line at?

you can imagine how deflated i feel after they went 0-5 on game tying free throws there at the end...wowwwww....
I can more than imagine. Your beats yesterday were pretty awful, too. TCU? Nothing worse than writing off a bet, having your team come all the way back, and then give it away at the end. Manhattan arguably worse. That potential game-winning shot literally threw itself out of the rim to force OT.

Could be. Should have some nice crowd support, but I don't think their fan base is as large as ASU's. It is closer to Hot Springs, though. Western Kentucky has been a different team since firing McDonald and the talent of their freshmen class is seriously impressive. I'll watch for entertainment purposes only. Good luck if you play it!

haha, yep. i still haven't even seen the highlight for the TCU finish. dont even know if i want to. i only saw they were up 3 with under a minute, then i flipped the channel, only to catch word it was in OT a couple minutes later.
that manhattan shot defied the laws of physics. worse beat for my brother though. he graduated from MC a couple years ago. neither of us knew that alvarado wasn't playing until the game started. would not have made that bet if I knew that.
nice grab on Loyola today. didnt catch the game. did Patsos drench his suit in sweat like he always does? haha. I'm kind of annoyed that he won coach of the year for the MAAC. Steve Masiello turned around MC from a 6-24 team to a 20-11 team during his first year as head coach. that's the biggest turnaround in all of division 1 basketball. how does that not merit the honors for the conference? it's not like loyola even had that great of a season
i'm joining you on south alabama. hoping the tempo and rebounding play a huge part of the game. can you believe that south alabama is #12 in the entire country in rebounding rate, despite being #331 in effective height? wow. (obviously that has a lot to do with their competition, but still impressive.) im expecting them to get a bunch of 2nd shot opportunities...as long as they can do a moderately good job on defense, good chance this game stays somewhat close...

I take it u posted your Arkansas St play somewhere else? I was looking to see what you were on today and never saw it. The only play I made was Kentucky but couldn't get it posted here.

I had to change things up to try and halt the skid, so I threw the plays onto the 140-character site. Not many people saw, which is fine...I just wanted to see if I genuinely suck now or was just in a temporary rut.
