GAME NOTES: The first-ever meeting between the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Spartans of UNC Greensboro takes place in Florida this afternoon, as they clash in the inaugural Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena.

For UNCG, this is the team's first game away from home this season, having produced three wins in four tries thus far. The Spartans have won two straight since bowing to East Carolina by a single point (85-84) back on Nov. 12, taking down Chowan and Greensboro College by a combined 69 points.

As for the Bulldogs, they tipped off the campaign with an 83-70 setback versus Saint Mary's on the road, but have since rebounded with wins over Centenary (106-59) and Central Arkansas (94-57) in order to pad their stats just a bit.

These teams will be back in action on Tuesday, matching up against San Diego and Illinois-Chicago depending on the outcomes today.

Against Central Arkansas on the road five days ago, the Bulldogs forced 24 turnovers and held the hosts to just 35.0 percent shooting from the floor. Leading the way on offense for LaTech was Raheem Appleby with a game-high 21 points, followed by Kenyon McNeail and Michale Kyser with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Kenneth Smith scored just five points, but still played a major role with his 10 assists and three steals.

Despite shooting only 4-of-16 behind the 3-point line and 4-of-8 at the charity stripe through the first three games, Appleby leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 17.3 ppg, followed by Chris Anderson (12.7 ppg), Alex Hamilton (11.3 ppg) and Cordarius Johnson (11.0 ppg), with Hamilton also handing out an average of six assists per contest.

UNCG dominated all over the floor against Greensboro College the last time out, outscoring the visitors in the paint, 48-16, and also holding them to a mere 12-of-39 (.308) behind the 3-point line. Kyle Cain led the way for the Spartans with 23 points and 14 rebounds, both of which were game highs, while Jordan Potts shot a perfect 5-of-5 beyond the arc to come up with 17 points in just 15 minutes off the bench. Tevon Saddler and Tyrone Outlaw posted 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Spartans have gotten off to a solid start in terms of their stats because of the weaker competition, resulting in 88.8 ppg on offense and 69.8 ppg allowed. Cain is good for 19.3 ppg as he paces five teammates in double figures. He is also first on the glass with 8.5 rpg and because he plays close to the rim it only makes sense that he is shooting 62.7 percent from the floor.
