The two team's in the tournament that played the Jackrabbits throttled them. Minnesota one of the weaker teams in the big ten manhandled them by 24 and Belmont by 27. Michigan will cover easily!! Sure South dakota St can win in their own conference but overrated in my opinion.
and being a weaker team in the b1g is a whole different animal

It's no secret Michigan doesn't have the style to play in the Big 10. They aren't physical down low. They like to run up tempo. But they have strong guard play and they can get super hot from the 3. Playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills will almost be like a home game for them. I think they can beat VCU. After that I'd be surprised if they went any further.
Glad someone finally mentioned this. Both Michigan State and Michigan get virtual home games in the first two rounds. There might be more Michigan State fans at the game cheering for SDSU than there are SDSU fans, and vice versa for MSU/Valpo.
Both play Thursday/Saturday so it should be really interesting to see the breakdown in fans at the games.

Actually South Dakota State has played 4 teams that are in this years tourney.
Minnesota (Lost 88-64, without Wolters)
Belmont (Lost 76-49, with Wolters not 100%)
New Mexico (Won 70-65, at New Mexico #16 at the time)
Montana (Won 68-67, at Montana)
By the way that is my biggest pet peive is when people make stupid posts like this, when truely they have no clue.
You and me both. I will never take a double digit favorite when I think that a dog could win outright. So yeah I am leaning SDSU. I need to dig a little deeper before making my play but I am a little worried with the line movement. From 12 down to 11. I was hoping the public seeing Michigan and South Dakota Who. Where is South Dakota? They have a basketball program? Figured knuckleheads would blast Michigan on name alone. I will make a separate thread later tonight or tomorrow once I do my analysis. I probably will not bet it until I get a better number. BOL!

I agree, I think Michigan will win this game going away. Michigan would struggle with them if SDST slowed the game down but they seem to like to run which will play right into Michigans hands.
Michigan seems to struggle against slower paced teams, not so much against teams that like to play at a faster pace.
Completely disagree with everything you just said. If you actually watched a South Dakota State game you would notice that Coach Nagy has gone out of his way to slow the Jacks way, way, way down. They have purposely worked on their half court game the last two months. If you look at the over/under the last couple months they are on a significant under clip. Jacks will not be playing into the hands of Michigan due to running with them. I will definately be playing the under.

They also lost to Hofstra (7-25), CSU Bakersfield (14-16), and South Dakota (10-20).
Hofstra no excuse. Just off the near win in Bama too (lost on a last second three at the buzzer after leading nearly all game long). CSU Bakersfield take a closer look at that box score. The starters played very little. Coach Nagy was working on his bench rotation to gear up for the Summit League tournament. I really wish they would have tried harder to pull out the win because it cost them at least one seed higher. USD are you kidding me? This is an in state rivalry game whereby this was USD's Superbowl. They played possessed and for the record USD played pretty well in the Dakota Dome this year.

Okay give me a signature road win? Minnesota looks like the best road win. Michigan is a very different team right now than at the start of the year (for the worst) and SDSU is a very different team now than at the start of the year (for the better).

Thank you Jesron. That is the type of information I would love to receive from a "homer"......No pun intended. You follow this team very closely and I am going to take your word for it.
One question though......Over the last two months , when the Jackrabbits have fell behind say, 10 points, did they shy away from the slow it down method and pick up the pace? Because lets be honest, a few 3's fall for Burke, Hardaway, the Jackrabbits can easily find themselves down 10 pts......

You don't think that MSU fans are going to stick around and cheer on the Jacks? I assure you that Jack fans travel well for a small school couple that with all the green the Jacks will have plenty of support.

The only time they speed it up is on transition. If they can get a quick bucket they will do it. But they will pass it around until they find the open shooter. They will work in the box to Fiegen to see if he can get some fouls and soften the middle for the perimeter shooters. At he beginning of the season they typically took shots with 20 seconds remaining now it is closer to 10 second. They have really worked on getting everyone involved and waiting for the right shot. But Nate has the quickest hands of anyone I have every seen and there is always at least one or two steals for a layup often and one. If they can get a quick bucket they will do it but in their normal offense up or down it makes no difference. Of course if down 10 with a minute left in the game all bets of off. Hopefully that is not the case. One thing I know for sure is if Jacks are only a couple possessions down with a minute to go with Michigan's choking hazzards and inability to hit free throws down the stretch to close out games ML is very possible.

Sorry K-Train I misunderstood what you said. Basically we said the same thing. My bad.

You are a good guy Michfan, but you are crazy if you think SDSU has no chance to win this game. I'm not betting the ML or anything, but Michigan lost to Penn State, and this team has been underachieving the last 2 months.
Talent wise, they are one of the best in the country, but so is NC state, so its about more than that.

Am I saying they could lose this game just because they lost to PSU, no. I understand that when you are in a stacked conference such as the Big10, when you play lesser teams you tend to play down. That shouldnt happen in the NCAA tourny, but Michigan is an enigma.
I do think Trey Burke is the next Chris Paul tho, and Hardaway is a beast. I've also never bet against Michigan this year, and bet on them about 12 times. That being said, this team is an enigma and inconsistency is dangerous in March.

Looks like the games are in different sessions or at least far enough away time wise to where State fans might not stick around for the U of M game. If they do though, they will definitely be backing the Jack Rabbits.
The bad news, imo, for SDSU is that people actually know about them and they aren't sneaking up on anyone. What is another negative factor, imo, is that Michigan was upset in the first round last year so they won't let their guard down.
I wish you the best of luck Jesron and always enjoy reading your analysis. I hope the SDSU fans do make the trip out and level some of the fan disparity that will probably be at the game.

How do you think the SDSU front court will stack up against U of M's?
Not very well in a conventional sense. Jordan Dykstra would much rather shoot from the perimeter and clean up the offensive glass by crashing the boards from the wings than play a straight up C/F position. Tony Fiegen is undersized but have a scrappy toughness to him. Chad White only shots from perimeter but plays solid defense. As a whole the front court really took Baylor off their game last year so who knows. I think if they match up Trey Burke with Nate Wolters believe it or not Burke is going to have a problem. Wolters is much taller and has about the same quickness as Burke. Plus Wolters is the best one on one defender for SDSU and tends to get his opponents in foul trouble. He is the best player I have ever seen in managing to angle his body on drives to get and ones and has some of the quickest hands I have ever seen. I still in open court for a lay up or two is nearly a guarantee. We shall see.

The Indiana meltdown and then the bad loss to UW were good things for Michigan. Belein is one of the best coaches in the country, if not the best and he will DEF have his guys fired up to play.
Also if you think Trey Burke isn't going to have some big games this tourny you are out of your mind. Yes GlennRob3 and TimmyJr can be flaky, that is a concern.
Either way I expect those two recent losses to have Michigan focused and dialed in. SDSU can bomb, but Michigan can bomb better AND has better size and better athletes. Unless SDSU gets RED hot and Michigan has an off game (obv could happen) I see a comfortable DD win for Michigan. Not saying you should lay the pts, but I def feel comfortable throwing them in a money line parlay.
Also Michigan (primarily b/c of Burke) is a GREAT matchup vs VCU. I see Burke breaking that press ALL day and Michigan playing much better than people expect vs VCU.
sounds like you have UM in your final 4..sorry to hear that.

It's ok jesron these idiots know nothing about the jacks. Chad white will need to be effective down low and Fiegan will need to make big shots, and if wolters gets 18-27 they will be in the mix... Sdst +12 boom
