neil - I know its just a lean, but I know you dont like the friars D..but do you really like the Bears O?.... after traveling to Iowa City and basically playing an up and down tempo with Iowa 48 hrs ago. I see tired legs and body from travel and short turnaround. I cant count on Brown making more that 36% 3ptrs with all the travel and spaghetti legs..Is the friars D that pathetic? .I guess now I realize the lean and no play....how close were you to making the over a play?

Brown's offense isn't the greatest, but they get a ton of attempts. They've attempted at least 57 shots the last three years in this series, and actually put up 60 at Iowa. Just the fact that they're taking so many shots (and giving up more than they take) is scary, even in a bad offense. When you're getting that many shot attempts, you don't need a high %, just need the game to be up and down. They took 60 shots at Iowa and only made 21, and those 60 shots came against an aggressive McCaffrey 3/4 press which slowed them down a bit. That clunker probably adds value here, but above 140, I couldn't do anything more than lean with the outside factors. Leans have been atrocious, but at the same time, I can take pride in knowing that I laid off of those games based on those outside factors (travel, injury, little prep, etc...).
I think if Brown even shoots a somewhat modest 39-41% at Iowa, regardless of the outcome, this is probably at the same 145-146 range it was lined at last year.

Agree with you there. Detroit's offense has looked pitiful with no inside presence and McCallum is going to have to have a pretty decent game for Detroit to stick around I think.
The thing that would scare me is that without the structure in the inside game, Detroit has actually slowed the tempo b/c of the depth issue, and the defense has taken a big hit until they can get someone inside. This team can't play slow and expect to score in the half court without an inside presence. The offense requires it to operate efficiently. I would be scared that they run a bit more, but they're also playing 3rd game in 5 days and lack of depth may prevent that. The first four minutes generally don't tell the outcome of a basketball game, but with all the emotion of the Dickie V court presentation and a big name coming into their gym, the pace in this one from the start could be ultra-up-and-down.

Should add here that Detroit's interior is extremely weak in terms of physical strength as well. They're toothpicks on the inside without Holman & Minnerath, no player weighing more than 200 pounds.

Hey nropp what are your thoughts on Illinois after the Gonzaga game? I was surprised they won to be honest.
Really, really interested to see how they Nicholson and the Bonnies on Wednesday. His presence pretty much negates any and all contributions from Leonard on the inside. I'm hoping for a 10-0 squad and a mini-favorite at the United Center, where I can go all in on UNLV.
As for the Gonzaga game, was more shocked than anything that Gonzaga went zone. Pretty dumb move from a pretty smart coach, and probably what cost them the game. He mentioned after the game that they had to go zone because they couldn't guard the Illini motion offense because it was "great." Team is pretty balanced, but not great coach.
Bruce Weber coached "great motion" teams have never shot well at the United Center. Check out last year's 57-54 loss to one of the worse teams in the country in UIC. I think the previous year they lost to Zaga there. Might have beaten Georgia the year before that, but Georgia sucked. And the year before that maybe the clunker against Zona. They suck at the UC, and playing a team that actually defends like UNLV, I will gladly take my chances.
