Yeah its funny that people typically don't realize its a bad play unless the ball doesn't go in.  Anyway, as for running the clock out, I don't think its a bad play at all.  You just have to be decisive once you run it out.  You have to force the issue.  If you shoot the ball too early you give the other team an opportunity to win it at the other end.

yeah but the odds are it wont work more often than it will work....and to waste 12 0f 16 seconds to get that shot is stupidity....they easily could have gotten a better shot than that and i am sure most coaches would have drawn something up to  just dribble around and wait for that shot  that he took..!
