I know SD State when far last year, but does anyone else think this conference a bit overrated this year. SD State lost a ton of talent, and now they’ve blended in with the rest.
Getting input for anyone that follows the Mountain West…Just can’t imaging any team in this conference going far this year.
I think if any team was to advance, it would be NM, considering they beat LY SD State team.

Thinking and it’s been killing me.

I’ll prob bet every team going against MW…especially if a lower seed faces anyone in this Conference… coaching is not great, guards are a bunch of mid conference guys that show no character, defense has gone downhill, etc.
I remember a couple years back, and I want to say every team in the conference lost on the first day…I see no difference this year…
…make me change my mind.

its crazy how MW is getting 6 teams in...Team like Providence/Seton Hall/St Johns would all dominate in the MW and are better or equal to all 6 of those teams..yet all 3 will most likely not get in..
Mayweather bet 450000 on

I think these teams (top 7) how well they played out of conf and handled business this season (except maybe UNLV but they do have the win against Creighton) is the reason why people are so high on this conf and I agree

MWC always looks good against each other........crazy thing this season is that their (top 7 teams) advanced efficiency metrics mostly aligns with the ACC..........shows you how down of a year the ACC is having..........

I'm not a fan but have followed New Mexico this year., living out here in NM. They are legit with a good 8 man rotation, top 30 team in steals, turnovers, and defensive efficiency. Few teams are in the top 30 in all these three categories. Their weakness is shooting, 3-ball just 33%, FTs, just 70%. They rebound fair, a top 60 team in that category.
They have a freshman big man no one has heard of, JT Toppin, who can bang it in the middle. He could be a pro if he continues to improve. They have 3 fine guards: House, Mashburn & Dent. Mashburn is streaky as shiit. If he's off, he hurts the team. House and Dent are steady. Dent is a driver. House can shoot and drive. Baker is a pure shooting guard, the 3 ball specialist. The one advantage I see is that they are peaking at the right time; they got Mo, but Mo is fickle. They also have an attitude which can work against them as well as for them. They have a decent young coach, pretty cool on the sideline.
How far they go will depend on their seed and what team they are matched up with.
Good luck in the tournament. I'm looking hard at St. Mary's to make the elite 8 but know little about them other than they are No. 1 in rebounding, no.3 in DE. What is your opinion of them?

Nice the write up on NM. Right now NM is a 9 seed, which bodes well if they’re the underdog.
St Mary’s is a veteran group. Good pg / power forward combo, which I always take account of….not the most athletic team, but they can grind it out with anyone. Only thing that worries me is coaching…not the coach I want leading a team in tight games. Statistically the only thing that stands out is FT shooting… 68%, and it’s expected considering their lineup is one of bigger teams in nation.

Yeah Jim Root said same thing. He thinks maybe because they leave elevation. They dont do well ATS. Just tossin it out there is all. I love New Mex still lol. But he brought that up as to why theyre only 35% or so Ats last 10 years or whatever. Theyre cool fun teams. I get it. Love em too
