A Few Words to Texas Backers

Let me say that when I feel strongly about the side in a particular game, I try to do everything I can to persuade others to get on what I believe to be the right side.  If I offending anyone in the process, I probably meant to!!!  Naw . . . just kidding!!! 

In capping this game, I think that I got more things wrong than I got right, but I am very thankful to have gotten the cover.  Except for that bizarre timeout call by Mack Brown at the end of the first half,    I think the Texas coaching staff outcoached the Bama coaching staff.

I really don't have enough good things to say about Texas.  Except for their run defense, UT's defense played off the charts.  Their defense line consistently whipped Bama's O-line with speed rushes, and their secondary blanketed Bama's receivers which gave the rushers plenty of time to find their mark.  The stats bear this out.  I think UT's defense had more sacks than McElroy had completions.

Offensively UT's much maligned O-line stepped up and played like champions!!!  Them stonewalling blitzes is what allowed Gilbert to set his feet and find a wide open Shipley for the two TDs.  I really thought that Gilbert kid played really well under the circumstances, and at times appeared to be the best QB in the game.

I certainly don't think it would be a stretch to say that had McCoy been able to play the entire game, that Texas probably would have covered this game if not won outright.

In my defense, however, I will say that I predicted that Bama would knock out 2 of UT's starters in this game which is exactly what happened (McCoy and Hall).  I also said that if Texas insisted on rushing McCoy into Bama's NFL-like defense, there was a good chance he would not finish the game.  Obviously, that is exactly what happened.

Bama's defense is much bigger and stronger than anything Texas has seen all year.  It is essentially a NFL defense.  And for the same reason you don't run a QB into a NFL defense in professional football, you don't do it against Alabama, or you do so at your own risk.  Mack Brown rolled the dice in this regard and lost.  Plain and simple.

In the end I am estatic to cash my tickets because I had a ridiculous amount of money riding on this game (3 straight bets and 3 pending parlays), but this was far from the clean, mistake-free, dominating performance I was expecting from Bama, and Texas deserves all the credit for my predictions falling short!!!

Yeah, God knows I've had plenty go the other way on me!!!  I'm sure we all have!!!

I am sick and tired of hearing people bitch about this game when they dont realize Saban was calling a conservative game for 75% of it just due to the fact they were about to win a NC. If Alabama wanted to score more points, they easily could have. Ingram and Richardson had huge holes to run through. I will also admit we were wrong in assessing the pass defense of Texas as that was the only thing they were keying on. Apparently Muschamp believed Bama would try to win the game passing and give his rush D no support. Obviously did not work.

I can't argue with much of what you say Bibendi, but I will strenuously disagree with you on your assessment of MCElroy.

McElroy's lack of success was more attributable to UT's defense than anything else.  McElroy was being extra careful not to take any chances with the football knowing that was probably the only way Bama loses this game.  UT's secondary did such a great job on Bama's receivers that he really had no choice but to either make risky throws or eat the ball, and he consistently did the right thing by eating the ball.

Glad we cashed our tickets tonight bro!!!

 He wasn't passing because they were sacked on 4 of their first 7 pass attempts.

Amen H-L.  lucky if you picked Bama.  All of that research and BS that everyone thought they found that made them pick Bama was absolutely wrong.  unfortunately because of an injury these guys come out with the cash.  i still like my pick, Texas wins with mcCoy.  no question.  If someone picked bama they just got lucky.

Certainly a very lucky break for the 'bama backers, but conversely, Texas backers can't proclaim "we would have won...." .... All handicapping is out the window once a key player goes out of the game and the game is a crapshoot at that point......

..... most likely the game would have been close to a tie at half-time and 'bama certainly would have not played the conservative 3 and out offense in the the 2nd half.......

...... lets just put this one behind us and collectively find some more winners this weekend...... the purpose of this forum is to work together to pick out winners and make money.... too often it turns into a shit-fest of annoying smak-talk

Very classy post Jimmy, I was wondering where you would stand after the game. 

I rode with you on Bama and I couldn't agree more. Texas definitely showed up to play and props to them. Thanks for a great season.

great post Jimmy.  sorry the game didn't turn out the way either of us thought in the beginning.

Mack was an idiot for calling that shovel pass, and that turned out to be a big play.  other than that, thought he coached pretty well.

i'm not going to coulda, woulda, shoulda type stuff today.  Bama won, we lost.  would things be different?  probably, but they aren't and that's that.

i will say that i hope McClain falls to the cowboys---he and Kindle both cemented first round picks hopefully.
