Hey Doc,
I totally agree. There aren't any set criteria except for the obvious stuff I posted above, add in smelly lines, and ...viola, my list. In fact, it was created by glancing thru the games and judging my own reaction based on what I knew previously, what I knew about yesterdays games.
And it isn't always the big name teams. I had ECU vs. UNC b/c it was an awful spot for UNC and a great one for ECU. Little brother and all that.
"Let's try this." is funny as I do all the work, right? I don't really think there is anything to try. This is just my list of teams that I think are likely to let you down. Often they are good teams, who are attractive to bettors. All you have to do is come around on gameday and see the handringing of the GA backers when Tenn almost beat them. please feel free to add your no/fade teams.
Let's look at last weeks list as an exercise: Here is my opinion and why they made the list.
UCLA - lookahead, and overvalued based on my evaluation of Utah game
Michigan - laying only 3, PSU just lost to IND on lookahead
Stanford - UW win, going to IMHO under-rated Utah
aTm - fishy public line designed to get one sided action
BYU - hangover from taking down Utah St
NW - bad, bad loss to OSU, stupidly high line begging for NW bets
Clemson - Lookahead, BC is classic physical team that you don't want to face in these spots - they care more about toughness than points
Neb - They aren't good enough to lay 2 TD's on the road in conference (except against purdue...)
Missouri - looked great vs Vandy, and GA looked bad. Oppo perception
Louisville - lookahead to UCF, and they seemed to be sleepwalking lately - one sided action.
Not trackable. Some of it is - like lookaheads etc, but some of it finding misleading scores and teams whose computer rankings are likely off based on an understanding how what actually happened in the game.
Example: Again, UNC loses to GT 28-20. GT is better. Not necessarliy as that game was played in a monsoon, and the rain massively affected the pass first approach of UNC. Also, UNC was down after that game - they needed that to make goals they may have set for themselves. So ECU was obvious, but also, I keep in the back of my mind that maybe...maybe...UNC isn't quite as bad as they seem. This keeps me off the smelly line of MIA -8.
Back to work.

Doc
