Those of you that follow my plays of the month know that I only post them if I have a very strong opinion. My history speaks for itself and you can go back and look at my previous posts to verify that.
Tonight when Tulsa visits Boise the pubic is pounding the over at over a 70% clip. The opening number of 52.5 wa very interesting to me based on the odds makers knowledge that this would be a national TV game and that both of these teams have public "over reputations." It was even more interesting that my opening personal power rating number had this total at 56.6. To me the OVER immediately looked like value, then I started the research.
It appears to me.. that conversely to popular opinion...this will be a display of defense not offense. Both teams have tremendous team speed on defense and can play that side of the ball very tough. Boise State is ranked 14th in the nation in yards against and is ranked 13th in the nation in total points against allowing an average of just 14.4 against per game. The Broncos have played 3 games this season on the blue Astro-Turf and all 3 went UNDER.
Tulsa is almost just as good defensively allowing an average 16.2 points per game and rank 27th n the nation n yards allowed...and these stats includes their loss on the road to Oklahoma, 45-0.
Tulsa, with the exception of Oklahoma allowed (who averages 187 rushing per game), held New Mexico to 55 yards rushing on 25 carries, held Rice to 47 rushing yards on 30 carries and stonewalled Tulane giving up only 39 yards on 34 carries. That is 1.58 yards per carry. I am going to discount the rushing stats against in the game versus Sam Houston as well, since it was 35-3 Tulsa at Half-Time and Sam Houston pretty much conceded and ran the ball in the 2nd half versus Tulsa back-ups (instead of trying to mount a comeback through the air). In Tulsa's 3 contests this year on artificial turf the UNDER has cashed every time. Tulsa has not played a I-A game this year that has gone over 54 points.
Tulsa on offense rushes the ball an average of 42.4 times per game, Boise rushes 37 times per game.
It is very important to note that in every game this season (with the exception of Tulsa's road game against Oklahoma) that these teams have always played the role of favorite and have not faced the type of defensive speed that they will each see tonight.
This will be a major step up in class for both offenses tonight in competition and it will be for all 4 quarters. That is why my Total game of the month is on the UNDER 55.

good luck tonight....i am personally playing the boise team total over 31...tulsa has only played 1 offense this year with a pulse (and only one team overall with a pulse) and oklahoma put up 45 against them.

dont personally know who you are...but totally agree.
GL with the play... im hoping and waiting for 56 as my book currently has 55.5
You may not see a 56, you will have to grab it real quick if it pops up
there. There will be a to of sharp under support immediately if it goes
over the 8 scores. I personally see this game being in the 30''s or
below.
I know both teams have capable offenses, but neither has really played
a legit defense. I think both offenses will struggle to get in gear. I
can't justify playing an over based on special teams.

Tulsa has played 4 road games this year (out of 5), so that is a very tough task (regardless of the oposition) to have a defense perform that consistently game after game.
A teams form is super important to me. I see both teams playing to form almost every week. I like to bet on things that are constants and rely less on hope.
Boise may very well score the 31 or more, but it would be uncharacteristic. imho

Excellant write up. I really didn't like either side when I first looked at this game but once I got the under at 55.5 I was all over it. Everyone on here is screaming over and I doubt they realize Tulsa has a very capable defense in this one. Your write up just made me more confident in my pick. GL to us tonight!

Tulsa Tonight: Areas of drizzle, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 7pm. Low around 43. North wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms

Ok i am not at all bashing your pick but you said the total opened up at 52.5 and now that everyone knows there is a chance of rain and a flu bug which wont come into play but thats besides the point and now the total stands at 55. Seems a little fishy to me and looks like they want the under to be pushed. I will take the over and watch. Just my 2 cents no matter what happens best of luck to ya bud.You do make some solid points though.

The majority of the betting public has no idea about the Boise Flu and has no idea that there is the chance of a drizzle. 90% of the people watching this game would put their bets on Boise and the over regardless of the lines.
If you and I were playing Offensive line for Boise tonight... we would still go off as favorites and people still would be pounding the over...the public doesn't have a clue...that's what makes them the public.
