Alabama showed a lot of class winning last year, including their fans. Mark Ingraham was a great representative as well, and appreciated around the country--not just the south.
Auburn just appears to be the jealous little sister who feels neglected and wants a taste of that glory--but may not be up to the task.
Auburn is on the "wrong side of the tracks," that can't get the scholar athlete like Alabama. They are the darker shadow of the Crimson Tide.
If Auburn does hold up that trophy, it just isn't going to feel right. They are trying to "prove something." But maybe they have had their trophy season before the big game.. They are now #1. Cam is the certain Heisman winner. The last step might be a slippery one, and the glass slipper might not fit on the foot of this evil, badgering sister.
Even these posters coming out of the woodwork are annoying and ignorant, and they make you feel uncomfortable and leave you with the creeps. Let's face it folks, this is not Alabama.
Right now I choose Auburn to win the game. But I don't have any good feelings about the team and the coach and Cam Newton and N. Fairley. There were just a few too many FG wins, and we saw how Boise State paid an awful price for relying on a kicker to bail them out of a nasty fight on the road. There's a lot of time that is passing, and Auburn may have a disadvantage with the layoff--they are far more methodical, slow starting and perhaps too cocky about their abilities to comeback, make adjustments, gather themselves, whatever.
Oregon will not be taking time to be dazzled by a gymnastic-like TD from CAM, as they will be turning it up and moving the ball down the field quickly--probably while the TV audience is watching the replay for the 22nd time. Oregon put up 48 on an SEC defense as if it were any other defense. They wore them down with tempo. LaMichael James ran for over 150 yards.
“We didn’t make any adjustments in the second half,” James said. “It comes down to tempo. Once the tempo gets going, it’s hard to stop. Once those guys (on Tennesee) got tired we kept rolling.”
Auburn did not face Tennesee this year, but probably their offense would have dominated late in the game. The Volunteers have not had a Manning-like presence back there for awhile--but they have that same hard hitting SEC defense.
Auburn's defense has not impressed, and they kept mediocre teams in ball games late, and would have lost to Miss St and Clemson were it not for FG kicking mistakes and a dropped pass by Miss St. This offense of Oregon is not an awkward and clumsy pro-style offense that we see in Miss St and Clemson--the Tigers especially are pitiful to watch with the ball on offense and can hardly get to 20 points at the end of a game. It is putrid and boring--even Clemson fans will admit that.
Cam cannot win this alone. It has to be a complete team effort. But I believe Oregon could sucker Auburn into their style of game, and Auburn will have difficulty containing a polished offense that doesn't give a damn about trench warfare because it's irrelevant and meaningless when the ball is being aired out to a wide open receiver.
For now I choose Auburn, but the choice is on the razor's edge.
