The thing you're missing is Zook doesn't give a flying fuck about that region. That's not where you get speed players like the ones he's getting.
Zook doesn't want the athletes that Mich, Ohio St and ND will be recruiting. This is where you are confused. He will win with SPEED! The other Big 10 coaches will be busy recruiting the same slow athletes they have been recruiting and Illinois will get faster and faster until the other teams realize what's happening.

No moron, that's not what I'm saying. What I mean by that is Florida (and California area for that matter) football is different from Ohio and the rest of that region. The Ohio regions are run run pass, and ground and pound it type teams, so that's typically the kinds of players you recruit out of there. They have some speed sure, but overall, it's a slow, power type of football. Those players are going to schools like Ohio State, Michigan and whatnot, and when they play each other, they can match up on a field and go back and forth. However, in comes Zook, recruits speed that's not typically found in that region, spreads the field outside of the tackles, and you guys have no clue what to do. Florida 41-14 last year could have told you that.
The reason people hate OSU is the delusional fans that think because they go 10-2 every year that they are the school everyone wants to be. People that aren't delusional realize that you don't play anybody, you're nothing special, and the rest of the college football world around you is evolving and leaving you in the dust. We're just all tired of hearing about your shitty team that would go 8-4 at best in the SEC, Pac-10, Big East, hell, even the ACC.
I could give a rats ass who wins the Big 11 unless I bet on it, because that conference is pretty much irrelevant unless you like football played in the 1960's.
