Dawgs and Clemson

I'm not sure how anyone could trust the Clemson QB against this Georgia team playing at what is pretty much a home game for the Bulldogs. I see a 34-13 type game but I have to dig a little deeper. 

UGA- 6.5.  Under 56.5.  Strikes me as above average probability.  Know teasers are not recommended in cfb. Had significant success in NFL playoffs last season w Wong type teasers. Of the opinion it is very difficult to beat the spread consistently,long term in college.  Thus,moving this down thru numerous key numbers appeals to me. And should theoretically statistically possibly give me an edge value wise.. If not,no biggie.

Couple of things. UGA got some injury issues w rb as both Robinson's r battling things and transfer Etienne status unknown after off-season DUI arrest. Understand charges were dropped( shocking) after plea bargain.  I would expect KS to start him as all the plethora of other off-season issues obviously weren't much of a concern. Just W baby. For the program w the lowest graduation rate in the country three years in a row too. Impressive...

Moreover,a reputable site I use showing,as of today, 96 percent of monies on UGA. Yikes. Lotta love,in numerous ways,for UGA. Public ain't always wrong. Gotta let em win some to keep em coming back.

Georgia started slow last year and the year before if I am not mistaken

Etienne will be electric with this offensive line and blockers on the edge when he gets out to run. I think he will make Beck quite dangerous this year and receivers will benefit. One part of offense opens up for the other sort of thing like the 49ers do in the NFL with great effectiveness.

I can make a case for Clemson being loyal to the program, tough and wanting to prove something right off the bat. Not using the portal could mean more than we think given the fact so many are coming back that are well recruited to the program. It comes down to Cade frankly and moving the ball against Georgia. That was the Tigers issue last year.

Think many might be overlooking the fact Klubnik was a five star prospect, the Gatorade Texas player of the year and led his HS in Austin to three straight state championships. A rarity. Finished last season w good momentum as they won their last five. Hence,perhaps he elevates his play...with fewer sacks and down field ypa... this season realizing  inherent potential. Second year under new OC. Imo Mkt perception,valuation of Clemson is low. Similar to GT today. Can not let recency bias overly influence effective decision making. 83% of money on UGA.

Eight OL back who have started....Clem. Lost to FSU in Sept in OT.  Beat 14th ND late in season. You mean the Dabo who won multiple NCs?

KS would not comment on whether Etienne will play. I fully expect him to start. Being arrested,cited for DUI,speeding and similar is commonplace for the program. Inspite of the terrible tragedy,deaths resultant of such a few years ago. 

As someone with PTSD who lives in Clemson and follows the Tigers as a hobby, a case can be made for Clemson +13.5 IMO. Clemson is priced at +13.5 because last year they had a good defense, ranking 8th nationally in total defense,but the red zone offense was terrible, they had no WR1’s on the team, the receivers they did have were injured for most of the season, contributions from the TE was minimal and the QB play was substandard.Clemson was ranked 50th in total offense in 2023 and 40th in passing yards. They averaged just over 5 yards per play last year, far from elite and nowhere near what is required to compete for the natty. By comparision, they averaged almost 8 yards per play in 2018 when they went undefeated. Can Clemson stay within two TD’s? It will require improvement from the QB, better WR play and a healthy dose of Phil Mafah. Their defensive line is elite, the line backing corps is elite. I can make a case Barrett Carter is the best linebacker in the nation. Clemson is suspect in the secondary. I believe this clemson defense is capabale of holding Georgia to 30 or less. I see this game as 27-20 Dawgs with Clemson having a chance if the QB play is better and they stretch the field. The path to victory for Clemson is to get 120-150 yards rushing and 200-250 passing. Neither QB is a true field stretcher and the UGA defensive ends are talented players but not of the same vintage as recent UGA defensive ends. If Etienne does not play, I like 13.5 even more. I’m going to do a larger write up on this game in a seperate thread.

Georgia wins and covers…Close 1st half, then Georgia pulls away.  Yes, you Clemson backers do have some cojones betting against the best coach of the best team for the last 5 years…on a quasi home field for UGA…whether Ettienne plays or not…I will give you that…

60% of tix, 79%of handle on UGA yet line doesn't move. 83% of handle on Mich and same. Accuracy of these handles questionable obviously.  Notwithstanding,why isn't the line moving? Large monies on opposite side supporting current mkt price? Or really not statistically significant....just bs? 

On another note,whole world is down on Klubnik. Recency bias? Often,huge strides r made second year. Understand he worked with the Mannings,others off-season on the mental side.  My conjecture is he's going to surprise to the upside.  Stk is very low.  The kid did win three Texas HS state championships in a row in Austin.

Unless they have some incredible supporting cast around him, these QB's usually just are what they are.. I knew the kid was a loser watching him lose by himself against the Vols in Orange Bowl two years ago, then he was that same guy last year and watched him lose too many games with incompetence including the reason they lost to FSU when the rest of the team dominated. Most likely he's still a bag of shit just like their other QB is that's now at FSU 

it’s week 1, and there seems to a lot of hype on “back against the wall” “chip on their shoulders” Clemson…Even the sharps are clueless…that’s why the line is not moving.

Have you watched him play the last two years? Until he's something other than that i'll rightly expect him to be that.. ESPECIALLY against the most consistent defensive team in college football now. When you beat Bama or UGA it's almost always because of good QB play, unless they turn it over 4 plus times. He's gonna have to show he can play well against a good defense, DJU against UGA three years ago, you remember that game? Obviously UGA won't be as good on defense this year as that one but it would not shock me at all if klubnik looks very hopeless like DJ did in that game.

 The great unknown in this game is clemson‘s offense. Clemson was ranked behind UCONN in offense recently. Neither quarterback is a field stretcher. Beck hasn’t demonstrated the ability to stretch the field last year or in the spring game this year. Clemson’s defense must impact Beck. Not sack him per se, but hit him and move him in the pocket. Beck doesn’t extend plays like stetson bennett. If not, Georgia has the dudes in the WR room to hang 300 yards on clemson. I still believe people are sleeping on the clemson defense. They are on par with Georgia’s defense. This game is a leap of faith. If Clemson is improved on offense week1, the game could go to the wire. If not, Georgia covers easily. I’m betting on an improved offense and a defense good enough to limit Georgia hence I’m taking the points. Clemson has to play a clean game too btw. The were a red zone disaster last year with turnovers.

Frankly, I think Klubnik and Clemson r going to surprise to the upside. Appears to be a lot of pessimism re their prospects.  I didn't say win.

 I would be astounded if there was not improvement. How much so is the unknown quantity in this game. I was not overly impressed by what I saw at the spring game but I am betting on improved QB play behind a much improved OL. I would give the ball to Mafah 30 times in this game. The talent of Georgia is undeniable but there is a viable path for Clemson to win. If Clemson can move Beck in the pocket they can win. If he has all day to throw Georgia is too deep at WR to cover them all. A good game inbound IMO.  

I was wrong, he looks even worse than DJU in that game.. 

Look I've been watching football for a long time, when these kids are awful they don't improve magically in an off season.. They stay brain dead awful, and make no mistake this klubnik kid is about to change the way people view Dabo Swinney going forward now.
