Florida's of winning the national championship is 32 to 1 according to one respected book.

Florida will have one of the best pass defenses in the country and an excellent rush defense. They will have a much improved passing attack this year, and a running game equal to last year (which was excellent).

I set their odds of winning the national championship at 25 to one.

Florida will surprise many people this year, but they have the toughest schedule in the nation according to Phil Steele.

People confuse "likely" with a good longshot play.

30-1 odds worth a stab. I am not touching it but can't talk anyone off them at 30-1. GL

Gators will be better this year. But, tough schedule and if Driskell gets hurt they really do not have a backup with any experience.

Defensively they should be very good but that offense doesn't appear to be NC quality. Good odds though so why not-

Offensively I don't buy them or Driskel. He might be a little better, but quarterbacks don't often go from really bad to really good in one year.

And on defense I'm concerned about that front 7. Other than Dominque Easley, there isn't a lot of proven football players, even if there is talent there. Depending on where you're looking, Easley is the only returning starter int he front 7. Yikes.

a losing wager but great great value at 32 to 1.

the reason they are 32 to 1 (and 25 to 1 in most books)

    - only 10 returning starters.
    - a qb who looked crappy most of last year and maybe that's because muschamp just wanted him to manage games not try and win them.
    - a super super tough schedule

Good points all. I do think Driskel will surprise you, and as he goes so goes Florida.

It might be worth throwing away $50 towards it, but it is lotto odds of that happening. UF will be good, but way too many question marks to be a contender. I think any NC dreams will be gone after the trip to Miami IMO.

Betting on Florida to win the national championship is a far better wager than some of the ridiculous wagers I've seen people post.

I agree with a couple of the others here regarding the Florida offense.  The SEC is tough and having a sub-par offense will only put Florida further back.  30-1 is big but I don't see it panning out...

With all due respect, that is an absolutely ridiculous assertion.  Florida plays in the SEC, and the SEC has won 7 consecutive national championships, and there doesn't appear to be a non-SEC team on the horizon capable of changing that this season.  That means the next national champion will either be the team that wins the SEC East, or the SEC West.

The SEC East will come down to the Florida/South Carolina game.  If Florida wins that game, they'll most likely be facing Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.  And please don't be another poster who actually thinks that Georgia actually has a legitimate chance of winning the East.  They won't beat either South Carolinia or Florida, and will probably lose to Clemson and Florida as well.  If you substituted Georgia for Florida in your post, then it would actually have some validity.

Jimmy, Florida has a lot of talent, but there are *many* question marks as well. And they are playing an SEC schedule, an OOC schedule at Miami and FSU at home, then a possible SEC Championship game against an Alabama or LSU.......

No, I think my assertion is right on target

Every college football team has a lot of questions heading into the season, and Florida is no exception.  Yes, Florida has a difficult schedule, but OOC games against Miami (a team they should manhandle in the trenches) and FSU has no bearing on who wins the SEC East.

Florida is the most talented, and best coached team in the SEC East.  They will once again have one of the best defenses in the country - if not the best.  They will certainly have the best defense in the SEC East again, and that alone will be enough to keep them in every game this season.

Florida's season essentially boils down to 3 scare games: @ LSU, @ South Carolina and Florida State.  I'm pretty confident they'll win two of those, and if one of those two is South Carolina, then they likely be playing Alabama in the SEC Championship game.  And if they play in the SEC Championship Game, then they'll be in excellent position to win a national championship - at least more so than any other team in the country not named Alabama.

      Me too.

Miami has a cute lil' QB, but the 'Canes will get dominated in the trenches.

Exact point made. EVERY TEAM HAS QUESTION MARKS going into a season. It's college football, player turnover happens every year.
