So let me ask you this JLAURENCLOWN...
Here's a scenario for you...
Team A is losing to team B by 10 points... Team A has the ball and its 4th down on their opponents 30 yard line with 40 seconds to go in the game... do they go for the TD or do they kick a FG? please answer... thanks

just stop responding, he's playing devils advocate and you're just personally insulting him. If you know enough about football then you should get what he's saying..... 9 point game they get two now its 7 with 5 and change left, brand new ball game. most to no coaches will play this way, but its something that definitely gets looked at.
if they got the two it probably wouldn't of matter, coach would of came up with a new way to bend me over.

Kick a FG as they need another possession anyway. Hailmary is easier to convert than a 60+ yard FG
And again with the childish insults. Go to bed or I will tell your father and you will lose your computer privileges. Daytraderpoopieface. Wait you are right, that was fun

Explain to me how it's a must to kick on the 1st TD. Maybe I am missing something but I feel like the sense of urgency may be lost if you kick on the 1st one assuming you will make it on the 2nd one. Most people just agree with the notion that you have to kick on the first because it's been drilled into their heads.
Sense of urgency isn't what you need! You need your team to keep fighting because they have momentum and morale... when you go for 2 and fail, you lose both of those things...
Make it a 1 possession game... the other team tightens up, and your team plays with a positive attitude and keeps hope alive!
The reality is, in that situation, a successful 2-pt conversion is crucial, and failing it is essentially the end of the game... put the pressure on the other team, and keep momentum on your side!
This has nothing to do with "having it drilled into your head"... it is the correct call to make!

Jokes on you my parents have a crawl space! I am the only one up as my wife and dog are sleeping. Would have went to bed by now but some research and this conversation has kept me up daytraderfartsniffer
Seriously guy nobody likes you in real life. You are narrow minded and people find you condescending. Yes I can tell this just by the discourse that has taken place on this forum. Stop being a loser and start respecting people. Life is much better when you just respect people regardless of their difference of opinion.

you are correct... I have a big ego and can be condescending probably due to the fact that I have many initials behind my name... You started this debate and you have given no evidence except one "ol ball coach's" perspective... I deal with clowns like you all day starting from the patients all the way to residents... you're a bottom feeder.. you don't ever want to take no for an answer and just trying to stir the pot with one article you looked up on the internet.. you probably bang your wife with your clothes on because you're so insecure.. its ok bro... your psychiatrist will help you get thru this... that's what they are trained to do... SSRI's work too... try them...
peace...

You have an opinion and a reason for believing in it (you are ahead of the game right there alone). I respect that and am not saying you are wrong and I am right. My example before of cheeseburgers vs pizza is more my point. My opinion was perhaps from a "logic in a vacuum" standpoint. But momentum and morale are not in a vacuum and should not be discounted. So on a well coached team with properly motivated players, going for 2 MIGHT be an ok idea. But this team has terrible coaching and and really stupid players. Now fake punt at your own 6. That is just Batsh!t crazy level.

Is there anyone in this thread who can offer actual stats or probability to back up either side?
If not then why bother posting?
Rolling emoticons and insults won't convince anyone who isn't already convinced. All you are doing is wasting effort insulting someone you'll never meet
The maths is interesting. I might have a go

Tough to back this up statistically because of virtually no sample size. To really compare you would need a pool of games where a team down by 15 later in the 4th and actually win the game which regardless of the strategy will be difficult to find

successful 2 pt conversion is about 40%... On side kick is less.. you do the math...
I tried to explain to the OP that you should limit your 2 pt conversions.. if 2 pt conversions were statistically easy then every team would try them... hence, when you are down by 9 pts, you kick the extra point.. you don't decrease your probability in attempting 2 2 point conversions when there is only a 40% success rate... how is this a difficult concept to understand????
its very simple!!!!!!

yes I saw that.. its what you wrote after what did you mean by "60+ yard fg and Hail Marya.. Because that has no bearing on the question...
It was supporting the reason to kick. Easier to kick a FG from that far out then to attempt a long TD pass on 4th down. Conversely it's easier to convert a 60+ yard Hailmary (what is needed after the onside kick) then it is to kick a long FG after recovering an onside kick

Again with the 2 - 2 pt conversions. I am not suggesting they attempt 2 - 2 pt conversions. The debate is regarding the timing of when the 1st and only attempt at the 2 pt conversion should take place. Have you missed the entire theme of this debate. There is no camp that is suggesting 2 separate 2 pt conversions.

well.. i retract that statement... you don't have to do it twice... what i am saying is why put yourself at a significant disadvantage if you do get the ball back?

but you will have to do it again if you fail the first!!!!!! HOW ARE YOU NOT GETTING THIS????????
No your math is off. If you fail you do not have to do it again, you will know that you need 2 possessions, 1 TD+1FG or 2 TDs but no 2 pt conversion attempt since you are down 9. Pushing it off and failing the 2 pt conversion on the 2nd TD leaves you with no time to get another possession because you didn't game plan the need to have another possession.
This is my stance reworded. Honest question (not being sarcastic) did you not understand this to be my contention this whole time?

Team A has the ball with 5 minutes to go... they are down by 15 pts.. they score a td... now they are down by 9... you kick the extra point which is easier to do than going for a 2 point conversion... 96% success rate as opposed to 40-50%... you kick off... team b gets the ball... you are now down by 8 points. play defense and pin them in their own territory... you get the ball back... now you have no choice but to go for 2 pt conversion if you score( 40-50% success rate.).. 2 possessions is more realistic than 3 possessions if you fail the 2 point conversion... why on GODS green earth would you try a 2 point conversion that early in the game? so you now know you will need 2 more possessions(per steve spurrier)????? not very smart.. doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you will need 2 more possessions.. so play it safe and KICK THE EXTRA POINT.. how is this difficult???
