Who exactly is this houston team? someone reconcile this dr jekyl and mr. hyde team. until i see who's showing up i feel better with my Wazzu money
There is no Jekyll. Only Hyde. I've laid it out in detail above and answered you directly as well. All the losses have centered around Hermann's commitment to this team. And even with those rumors swirling they crushed Louisville so bad, many said it lost Lamar the Heisman. Now with Applewhite in charge, that is a thing of the distant pass.

This is on the front cover of ESPN's homepage. It is exactly the type of square thinking driving this line and ignoring subsequent developments with both teams. Nice to be on the other side of this with Houston:
Not only is San Diego State RB Donnel Pumphrey trying to become the FBS all-time leading rusher, he's doing it in his hometown of Las Vegas. Houston, meanwhile, might be feeling down after Tom Herman's departure

Scal, you know the public is driving this line up with that exact statement so idk how that makes you feel , it's going to be the most wagered game tomorrow in Vegas for the day and they said it's the biggest handle to decide. Also WilliamHill books in Las Vegas are reporting 72% of the tickets on Huston with 79% of the money on them . Not a good sign in my option ,

See you at the pay window, as you capped this game exactly the way I did, and I actually made several posts about it the past couple of weeks.
Wait, I cannot play this game Scal as someone else on the forum decided to go with San Diego State. Too funny.
Followers will be followers and leaders will be leaders. I could never understand how people can put there hard earned money in the hands of others they do not actually know, no matter how successful they may be. You would think people would want to gather as much information as they can from ALL the sources available to us, then make a conscientious decision on there own, instead of letting someone lead them off a cliff.
Have a successful Bowl Season! I hope to see you at the pay window on my occasions, and have a safe and happy Holiday Season!

I'm not trying to be a critic, because I think there's a good chance that you're right, but I think Houston backers are the one's letting one game affect their psyche. That dismantling of Louisville only happened about a month ago, and every was watching. Louisville and Michigan were the public's most bet teams, so it;s safe to say that most gamblers last image of Houston is their dominant performance against Louisville. People tend to ignore that they lost to Memphis the next week. I agree that it's a terrible match up for San Diego State, but just as you did with SDST, it's very easy to discredit Houston. They lost to NAVY, and Memphis, but they got KILLED by SMU. Those are three sub-par losses. They were about 1 foot from losing to Tulsa, they struggled with Cincy until the 4th quarter, and they didnt score the last 2- 1/2 quarters against Tulane...
"SMU could have passed or run for 500 yards on them. It shouldn't matter. This is the third best run defense in the nation. Stop letting on game override your psyche when capping these games.
That game was in the middle of October. It's the middle of December. More than enough has changed with SMU SDSU and Houston to care about SMU's run totals in that game affecting this one."
Also you keep saying that Wyoming shut their run down, which isint true. Pumphrey may have only had 110 yards, but Penney also had 117 yards. They had 250 yards and 3 td's.

Like the play, SD St losing to Wyoming was one thing but watching CSU torch them again the following week I have to go against them. Even though they already had their spot in the title game locked in, very strange to see a goodteam come out unmotivated 2 weeks in a row like that, which leads me to believe they just ain't all that good! And as you said the HC being hired from within means there's little change, no uncertainty or unfamiliarity. SD St is a one trick pony from a weak conference.

I think the under was the play on this game, but it's dropped too far. I could see Houston covering with ease, especially if San Diego State cant throw the ball. Houston will have a healthy Ed Oliver, and Steven Nelson, so if their game plan is just to line up and try to push Houston off the ball, I expect we might see a lot of 3 and out's... I just dont think Houston will have an easy time scoring either. Cincy was beating Houston 16-12 in the 4th quarter, and UCF was beating Houston 24-10 late in the 3rd quarter, before scoring 3 late TD's to win 31-24
So this is not a team has just steam rolled teams. They were literally in dog fights with teams much worse than San Diego State...
I'm just trying to play devil's advocate... I am going to wait until after the first quarter before I bet this game, because I could see SDST getting blown out, but I could also see SDST winning SU. If SDST is going to pull the upset, they will have to win the turnover margin, and they have to stay of schedule offensively. If SDST gives up a sack, or has a penalty, they wont be able to move the ball, but if they're running for 2-4 YPC they will be fine as long as they tcan pick up first downs. I am envisioning a few 10+ drives that end in field goals...
Who knows maybe i;l look into the under

Urban I have a lot of respect for your capping skills but your treatment of people you seem to deem inferior less so. I know nothing about NCAAFB but a lot about betting if that makes sense. I follow those who know more than me. When two players who I have a high regard for are on opposite sides then I think I'll wait for another game. Why is that 'too funny'

I almost psssed on Houston as I hated missing 3 as it's -4.5 now, but I'm not gonna pass on a game I like because I didn't get the best line(can't be 100% when it comes to that; ya win the overwhelming majority, lose a couple).
Houston -4.5 and Toledo -1 my plays. GL man

Agree 100% Scal.

Major Applewhite has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. He started in 2003 as a graduate assistant but it went back further. He had to play second fiddle to Chris Simms at Texas as a backup QB. This guy has quite a chip on his shoulder because of all this, getting passed up for HC jobs for 13 years. He has one now at a great school.
The AD and alumni will most certainly be using this game to gauge the hire and Houston's future. Applewhite can't shi* the bed here. He'll open up everything offensively and he has the big guns to do it. And the defense is there.
"Applewhite played second fiddle to Simms"Not exactly. Applewhite started the vast majority of the games where the 2 of them were healthy at the same time. (btw, as per Simms, Major was a real douchebag to him when they played together)
"Applewhite has been passed up for HC jobs for 13 years" Considering that he is only 38 years old, you are saying that he should have been a HC at 25.
"Applewhite has quite a chip on his shoulder" This is because he became an OC in his 20's, and a HC at 38??? That's not a chip, it is gratitude.
"The AD and alumni will most certainly be using this game to gauge the hire and Houston's future. Applewhite can't shi* the bed here" What Houston does in this game is absolutely irrelevant to Applewhite's future with the team. It's not like they will fire him if the Cougs get shut out.
Personally, I think that Applewhite was a good hire, and will be a good coach. This does not change the fact that your points to which I have responded are factually flawed.
Never the less, good luck my friend

That's what this forum should be about-those that know/observe giving relevant information. Thanks.
Scal, another great write-up, was wondering if you were going to do any bowl games.
Golly, you seem to be lacking in trolls, for some reason. It may be the Christmas spirit, or it may be picking Army and having them win after 14 losses in a row.....

Well anybody who trolls him on this game is an idiot and definitiely didnt do their home work. There's just no way possible to say that Houston is the wrong side, or SDST will win easy... We're dealing with a team that we have no idea how they will perform. Clearly Houston could beat almost any team in the country on the right day, but we have no idea what the team will look like today. As far as match up's go, Houston should make life tough on pumphrey, but I've spent at least 8 hours on this game, and the only thing I could gather was that there was a good chance the game would stay under 60. Unfortunately, the line moved from 60 to 55 to 51.5, but I didnt see anything that would suggest how well Houston will play today... We can guess, but until the game starts we wont know anything... BOL to everyone on this one.
SDST has only played three teams with a winning record all year. coincidentally 3 of those 4 games were played during the last 3 weeks of their season, those teams were, Colorado St, South Alabama, and Wyoming. They were 2-2 SU and 0-4 ATS in those games, they lost to CSU 63-31, and South Alabama 24-42.
Houston has played six teams with a winning record, and were 4-2 SU and 2-4 ATS. They also had a loss against an SMU team, that finished the season with a losing record. Houston lost 16-38 at SMU. Unlike SDST Houston has a few signature wins, including a 33-23 win over Oklahoma, and a 36-10 victory over Louisville...
This is the one thing that says that Houston comes prepared in what they deem big games...

Was liking the Pumphrey prop because he is 130ish yards shy of a NCAA record but now that I read this I might hold off. Thanks Scal and BOL to everyone today !
