south florida +7.5 @ HOUSTON - The "what are we, wood?" award for this season goes out to South Florida, who is now 7-0 and barely ranked in the top 50. Everyone is hating on the Bulls because they have played a creampuff schedule and four of their victories have been by less than 10 points. In fact, they haven't played an FBS team with a winning record yet. I don't listen to any of that hooey. One thing this team knows how to do is - win.
So now they have to travel to 6-1 Houston and they are getting 7.5 points. Here's a surprise for you. Houston hasn't beaten a team with a winning record either. The only time that they played a team better than South Florida, they lost. I have no evidence that Houston will win this game, let alone cover. You can yada yada comparative scores against shittier teams, it's like watching a kid hit home runs in a JV high school baseball games then when he gets pulled up to varsity he goes 0 for the season.
Last year's game was a 4 point Houston win...Houston was better last year than they are this year. South Florida is better this year than they were last year. Houston has two offensive starters (WR Singleton and RB Willians) banged up and their all world DT Oliver is questionable for Saturday. Finally, which coach do you ride in the big game where toughness will prevail? Charlies Strong or Major Applewhite....? Enough Said...I am taking Da Points and Da Bulls.

texas tech +5 @ IOWA ST - You know what happens after you spend a long weekend with your hot girlfriend? You get unloaded. That's exactly what we're going to see with Iowa State tomorrow. The Cylcones most assuredly busted their nut with their back to back victories over Okie State and West Virginia...then a bye week. These guys are 3-3 but actually think that they are good. They have played the toughest schedule in the country, but they're 3-3. I'm not impressed. Especially if they are giving points. Now they aren't a bad team but whether or not they are better than Texas Tech deserves further review.
The Red Raiders have convincing victories over Houston and Oklahoma State earlier in the year. After ruining TCU's season two weeks ago (the same TCU that beat Ok St) they bitch slapped Kansas last week. In fact, they come into this game at 5-2. Iowa State's swagger comes from the fact that they are very good at stopping the run. Texas Tech doesn't give a shit. They don't want to run the ball. Texas Tech has the best freshman QB (Bowman) in the country. Last week he lit up Kansas by completing 36 of 46 passes for 408 yds and 3 TD's. Against Houston he threw for over 600 yards. To top it off, Texas Tech's defense is now playing better than they have all season (only gave up 15 points per game in last two tilts). Iowa State just doesn't score a lot of points (24.7 ppg) so it always makes it hard for them to cover. Even if Texas Tech is losing, they have a 6'5" and a 6'6" receiver which makes the back door cover a threat until the last tick of the clock.
I think it's going to be a low scoring see saw game. But don't forget that Texas Tech has the 4th ranked offense in the country and the 3rd ranked passing offense. Whoever has the ball last wins. It makes it tough to cover one of these games if you're the favorite with an unimpressive offense, so I like the Red Raiders as a doggy.
Best of luck to all!

in hindsight, UNC and TT were both in a position to cover...so I'm not feeling unhappy about swinging and missing this week. Even with perfect info, generally you can only get 75% correct ATS.
