I thought I'd give some input as someone that lost $75,000 this year on CFB. I really have no reason for a Mia culpa per se since I rarely post picks or even post at all. The good news is that losing the $75,000 wasn't too painful financially. The bad news is that even so it's pretty sickening, especially when I think about how much good that money could have done to some local non-profit organizations.
I was on a 4 year winning streak. By "winning" we're talking 5K - 20K. If you have a decent amount of money just keep a spreadsheet. I did ZERO money management. I would just open the browner on my iPhone and reload $1000 - $5000 with a click. Didn't even seem like real money. On 1/1/19 I'm loading 25K and that's it for 2019. I don't have the time to micromanage a roll. I could dwell about the bad beat after bad beat but what's the point.
Best of luck to you all in 2019. Don't manage your roll like me. See you in Sept 2019.

you should skip online and go brick and mortar otherwise yeah doesn't feel like real money
You absolutely NAILED IT and I think that's especially true if you're really busy In fact, as I was reading my own comment that thought had occurred to me. The first 7 years I had a local and because he knew my money was "good" we weren't on a meet-up schedule, but if things got to 5 - 10 K in either direction we'd meet up. When you have to hand someone 5K in cash it feels very real. It's also a real high when you leave with a fat stack. Budweiser is 100% correct, brick and mortar takes away the "Monopoly money" feel of online.
Unfortunately, my local stopped a few years back but I know several people who use one. I just hate dealing with strangers but I know some people that use ones they'll vouch for.
Thanks to all for the comments. I know people like to post during the "highs" of a winning streak and tout themselves but I wanted to give the other side and post about my worst year.

Thanks man. Been there so I know from experience.
Key is you have to TRAVEL. No more online. Go to Vegas or whatever is closest to you. If that means a plane trip so be it.
Another thing is if you like action, just put $5 on a game. You'd be surprised how much you care about the game-as much as something you put a couple grand on. More about being right.
Last thing is just focus on what you like. If you're playing year-round, forget it. If you like football, basketball, whatever it is, focus on that, and just play a few times outside of that.
Good luck man like I said, been there. Main thing like I said is you gotta go outside somewhere and hand over the cash. Otherwise you have it available 24x7 and that'll drive u nuts.

About the $5 a wager thing, just do that if you're on a losing streak, to get back on track. Hard to do when you're chasing, you'll lose it all, but next time start out with the $10 a wager or something minor.

if you're looking to track bets for money management purposes, here's a spreadsheet with all the formulas already entered in and everything. absolutely free. i use the basic tracker
i know what unit size i win best at, where i screw up, what sports, etc...
No team is as good as it looks when winning nor are they as bad as they look when losing

I only bet CFB (thank God) and a little NFL. That's what is somewhat remarkable about the loss this year. As for the wager amount I think I need to get back to that but I find it tough. When you win a $10,000 wager a $100 wager feels lame. Typical Type A personality. My biggest concern isn't losing 75K, it's the fear of turning into one of those people that loses 500K in a year and it affects their relationships. Anyway, I appreciate the input. I think this may be the first mature conversation I've had on a gambling forum (which also explains why I rarely post). I'm not that concerned about getting out of control, but I was genuinely shocked tonight when I logged into my linked account and ran a filter for the expenses this years (vs deposits).
One more thing: Everything that worked for me in the past went to garbage this year. I'll bet $100 but on a strong lean but it could be $10,000 on a "lock." I don't care how many college degrees you have or businesses you've owned.....there is no such thing as a lock.

ur on track man. under control. CFB and NFL so be it. I also can't get enough football-though I much prefer the NFL. Season's over, I'm pretty much done until September (preseason is a waste of time).
We're both gonna b taking a break. lol

Iowa St 2H over 27.5. Both teams playing hard and I like the match-ups. I also lose large sums of cash so due diligence. Also taking into consideration a large amount of spiked eggnog and an Asian stripper. Don't judge, Med school is expensive.

2H bet. 5K. Let's turn this into a 70K loss.

Get a local. Have a limit and stick to it. You will be surprised how much it will help. Online is actually more of a pain when you want to cash out. I believe as sports gambling becomes more accessible, you will see a rise in "locals". Example, I am in Detroit area, and at some point it will be part of our casino's. I still wouldn't drive down to that sh!t hole to wager on a sport. I will still use my local by texting from my comfy couch.

holy hell, thats sobering!!...to most of us that is a shi..t-load of money but of course its all relative so as long as it didnt sink you or do harm to those around you at least thats something...its been said a billion times but for sure money management is the absolute key and the thing that most struggle with mightily, even more than picking a winner...good luck in the future tryna get a handle on it...sounds like if you could ever harness that discipline you could be quite profitable in the long run...but as for most of us thats a huuuge "if" of course.

Keep entertainment bets small. Larger bets fewer. Don't spend more than your gambling allowance. Don't large bet without good research. Be careful because stuff happens. Know when to quit and to take a break. I can tell you will be lucky in the new year. Good luck.

Look up bettingresource's money management and their spreadsheet. Using that spreadsheet and money management, you could have turned 6k deposit into 96k after 1 full year using that 3% compounding strategy. Like you said, money management is key, atleast you realized it. I recommend downloading that spreadsheet and using it. Also, keep an eye on bettingresource's facebook/twitter tomorrow, they promised a year big full stake 10 unit client play to be posted free on their social media. the did one before xmas with army -6 and it won in a blow out. I would recommend making massive bet on what they post tomorrow to make back some of your losses then use that winnings and do the money management with that spreadsheet. good luck.

Fukk brick n mortar. They don’t cash your tix right off, you have to wait in line, and then deal with jackoffs asking you opinions on games. Bet online, and do your own research, and with any decent money management, you should come out ahead every year
