Thursday night game in Ames. Even though Texas had a bye week to prepare, ISU has only lost to a solid Iowa team that is looking a little better this year. Texas also lost Jordan Hicks. I like it at +7.5.

Not a lock by any means but tough to like Texas giving over 3 on the road in a prime time game , I would only look at home team in this one

There's three valuable lessons I have learned after watching Thursday Night games:

    Rule #1:  Bet the under
Rule #2:  If you bet on Thursday Night games, pick the team you think is going to cover...then bet the opposite.
Rule #3:  Do not bet on Thursday Night games.

    Hahah those our my rules.

And a general rule of thumb of gambling is:

    A "Lock" means you lose

texas has 4 and 5 star caliber players at every position...along with a desperate coach...ash probably won't play, and yes, hicks is a loss.  I have also heard CB digs will not play as well.

this is far from a lock for iowa st.   they would have a better to chance and win if texas was feel good about themselves.   I can assure you they are not.

if texas plays 70% of its potential it will win and cover in this game, but that's a big if...

no play for me, but good luck...

We can look at records all we want but this is ISU's biggest game of the year by far. Texas biggest game this year was KSU (Mac Brown loses he gets fired game). A little let down is coming.

you obviously know nothing about Texas, their rivalries, or their motivation...I encourage you not to no play a side in this game...other than 2010, texas has owned iowa st in this series (including ATS) and its not close)....

I don't bet on or against texas these days.  there is too much variability.   there are more predictable plays on the board, in my opinion...

and the "mack brown gets fired game" will not be iowa st, no matter how bad...

unlike kiffin, mack has actually won consistently at times at texas 2001--2009, 10 win seasons...plus he won conference and a national championship...he may be forced to resign at some point, but it won't be in an airport terminal and it won't be after iowa st.   if it happens, it will either be after another embarrassing beat down from Oklahoma or the last game of the year against Baylor (probably another beat down).

mack has to go...that is a given...but he has done some great things for our program.  he obviously does not want to go, but he may not have a choice.   his legacy at texas and as a coach will be defined by how he exits the program.  if he shows dignity in passing the torch, then we will continue to love him and thank him for what he did.  however, if continues to be a whiney girl, then he will get forced out, and people will not embrace his legacy and will remember him for his failings...

I understand that they have better talent but some of these 4 and 5 star guys have been big time wiffs. I understand that you look at the history but what does that have to do with 2013 brother. So everyone here is picking Texas Rule #2 pick the opposite right? Ames at night is tough place to play, ask Oklahoma State a few years ago.

I like Mac, he just lost all of his top coordinators. These guys are the recruiters. Mac is just the cherry on top. I would never compare Kiffin to Mac and never did. It is just time to move on like Lloyd Carr and Michigan.

I like the longhorns in this one. Should be a good game, but their depth will have them pulling away late in the game.

I think after the Kiffin firing, the pressure was on.  Texas said, "look how quick SC fixes its problems AND "that is another top tier program that will be competing for a the handful of available great coaches out there"  The AD didnt want to get rid of Mack so he was "persuaded" to step down so that he wouldn't have to stab Mack in the back.  Also to show Mack the writings on the wall.  IMHO.

I agree that its a sign hes gone but it wont be mid year.  He did a lot for Texas and they'll show him some respect and allow him to retire at the end of the year.

So do you think the team gives up on him or wins one for the gipper this year?  Agreed, too many variables unless the spread is way tight or way high.

Iowa State is just not a very good football team this year. Don't let their previous years teams mislead you on this one. The only way Texas does not cover is if they lose 3-4 turnovers deep in their own territory.Their signature win is Tulsa!!   Don't overthink this one. I don't think ISU wins another game this year. I know everyone is aware of home dogs on Thursday night, but the Cyclones just don't have the guys to get this done, even against a below average Texas team . Not bashing your play, just my humble opinion

Texas wins, and covers the 8 pts....

Mack's got these guys going thru full pads, physical workouts on there off week...I think the days of coddling and entitlement are over in Austin...And being its a big TV game on Thursday, Mack has to show the nation that Texas is getting better every week...."BABY STEPS"

Also, playing for James "Jimmy" Street, who died this past Monday....best QB in Texas Football history....Never lost a game..
