I loved this guy, great story but a tragic ending.

Didn't he get canned for reffering to black athletes as gazells?

He meant absolutely nothing bad by it. The media just blew it up.

Yeah thats him. Here is what he said....The black is a better athlete to begin with because he's been bred to be that way — because of his high thighs and big thighs that goes up into his back, and they can jump higher and run faster because of their bigger thighs. This goes back all the way to the Civil War when during the slave trading, the owner — the slave owner would breed his big black to his big woman so that he could have a big black kid.

he was 100% absolutly right

has nothing to do with running from the cops.

i have been to kenya and the local blacks who haven't been inundated with western food were very smallish and skinny.

our drivers, who made a little bit of money were all big and they ate western food. in kenya, the drink blood & milk and and eat beef. not much food their.

Same here.

I found Cosell's remark "Look at that little monkey go" innocuous. In my opinion someone really had to measure clear intent in order to claim that remark as racist. What really puzzled me was why Ali never spoke out for his friend Cosell.   
As it was Cosell was so indignant he refused to apoligize feeling that would paint him as guilty. It was the beginning of the end for him. In many ways I wondered if many in the industry wanted him out.
