First, an apology to Mormons. In the past, whenever I've done a BYU write-up, it's included analogies to one or more of the following:
The (apparent) absurdity of Mormon founder Joseph Smith seeing Jesus in northern New York;
The "flirt to convert" method some Mormon girls use to attract non-Mormon guys over to Mormonism; and
My own personal desire to belong to a religion, or any club for that matter, that philosophically believes that every man should have multiple women partners in a relationship.
How can you tie any of that into a football write-up and make it relevant? Well, I certainly tried. God knows, I tried. But it's a new year, and I am more mature. Plus, I had my first threesome recently when my girlfriend and her best friend rocked me, so the whole multiple partner thing as a fantasy has lost it's luster. It was all fun and games that night, then the questions came a couple of days later as to "who was better?" and did I like when ______ did ________" Not worth it (that was a lie....so worth it).
Additionally, I've never met a Mormon yet that I didn't like, so I am no longer going to reference these things. (I do reserve the right as part of capping BYU to consider that no one got hammered doing body shots off strippers the night before a game, especially should they ever line-up vs the Florida Gators).
Enough of that. Tonight, vs UConn, I am playing BYU team total OVER 34. Last year, BYU decided their offense was going to try to be like the Oregon Ducks. Very up-tempo and with a pass-run mix very similar to what you see when Mariota is under center. The problem: It was their first year trying it, and although at the end of 2013 they had upped their average from 77 to 85 offensive plays a game, it wasn't always pretty.
Bronco Mendenhall has now had a year to fine tune his up-tempo offense (actually, I should say OC Robert Anae has had a year), and against UConn, this style of offense "should" do well. Size wise, BYU's receiving corps tower over the Huskies corners. BYU is as tough and physical as they come.
Not going to lay 15.5 pts, especially with BYU's two top corners not playing on defense. But I will take a shot that they wear down the UConn defense.
Concern: With BYU's 2 top corners out, that means more time on the field for UConn offense. More time on the field for UConn offense means less time on the field for BYU offense to cover the large 34 points. I'll take the risk.
And sorry for any offense (as in, to Mormons). Who the hell am I to judge, and they are very nice people. :-)
Remember, this is week 1. Who really know? BOL gentlemen.

I just realized that this post is longer than the average thesis most of you wrote to get your Master Degree at the University of Phoenix. Damn, I hammered out a lot of words quickly. You may now return to filling out your Facebook surveys that reveal your "real age" is 23. :-)

Very long way to go, especially when you're betting a team total over 34, but this is exactly what I alluding to. Remind you of anyone, as in Oregon? QB running, throwing, dumping off, trick plays? Nice start, but they need to keep it up. And, the refs need to quit screwing up their tempo. I can tell already the Referee likes FaceTime on opening day.

Refs are completely out of control in trying to stop BYU. Unbelievable. At this point, expect every big play to be called back, and 4 to 5 flags every BYU offensive series to kill tempo. #HomeCooking #RefBornInEastHartford #RefOnUconn

I wasn't talking about your plays but maybe I was too general. Forget it. BOL this season
You too VV. You may not recall, but we had some good dialogue betting 2H NFL last year. You went on a nice run, and most of the time I was same side. If this forum should be anything, it's about sharing ideas and an intellectual thought process (and sometimes, just mere gut). BOL and didn't mean to get all bowed-up.

only 27% of Mormons under 30 believe that joe smith story.
as for the flirt-convert--as long as they put out at least orally, then it's all good.
No disrespect, but how can you say they "don't believe the joe smith story" when it's the founder of their religion. That's like saying "only 27% of Christians believe the Jesus Christ story." I am undecided on either, so not trying to be critical. Like I said, every Mormon I've ever met was an example to look up to.

BTW, I know it's bad etiquette to bump your own post like I am doing, but there is an exception. If you're write up exceeds 500 words, then it's okay, lol

Unbelievable. I was so uncomfortable with needing only a TD at half. Seen it many times. The UConn failed score opportunities took away so much motivation.
Still time, but no lock even scoring 28 1H
