Thank you to all (any?) of the listeners of Take the Points over the past four years. We've had a lot of fun talking college football and general nonsense while being able to make a few bucks betting on Saturdays (or on a Monday betting the Clemson ML).
It's Year Five, so we decided to post some picks on Covers. We'll post a Lock, Trap and Total of the week as well as some last minute panic / degenerate picks.
I'd like to make it clear that we are NOT a bunch of jagoffs who charge money for picks or to listen to a podcast!
Now it's time for some picks...
YTD 0-0
Lock of the Week: Alabama -7.
Returning too much offensively. We've seen this script so many times with Alabama steamrolling someone early in the season out of conference. FSU bettors probably took McGreggor too...
Trap of the Week: NMSU +22.5.
Last meeting was in 1999 as #20 ranked Arizona State (-27.5) lost OUTRIGHT to New Mexico State. NMSU returns their QB, RB (one of the most underrated in country) and 7 of the 8 top TE/WR's. Arizona State continues to struggle defensively and NMSU will score. Also ASU will be unveiling a new Pat Tillman statue tonight and a new scoreboard. It'd be so fitting to watch ASU choke this game away given the extra excitement in the crowd. Also, it will be extremely hot tonight and NMSU is one of the few teams who can handle this August Arizona heat. Keep in mind Arizona SHOULD have lost to Grambling last year. Maybe it's Arizona State's turn for a scare in 2017?
Total of the Week: Tulsa / Ok State O 69.5
GUNDY. MASON. JAMES. 80 degrees and sunny at kickoff.
Good Luck to everyone in 2017!!!!!!!!

Major Applewhite will have Kyle Allen shredding that horrible AZ defense all night. Nice little homecoming for Mr. Allen returning to Arizona to torch the Wildcats!
Trap of the Week (1-0 YTD)- UNC +10.5
Just when you think UNC is done, they will hang tight with Louisville. The Cardinals haven't really looked amazing since last October. Purdue kinda got shafted last week. I like UNC to keep it close
Total of the Week (1-0 YTD)- Under 54.5 Auburn / Clemson
J.S. looked suspect as best in Week 1. Clemson rolled over a cupcake. Now we have the best front 7 in the vs a super talented Auburn defense. Primetime. Nerves. Under!

Honestly, it's really hard week IMO. Be careful. Give us two outta three and move on to week 4.
Lock: (2-0 YTD) Washington State -21
Luke is back and will crush one of the worst teams in the country. Colorado State scores 58 on OSU, then 3 on Colorado. Went to the wire with mighty Portland State. Minnesota ripped them by 34 as a dog (somehow). I expect WSU to score in the 60's. Can Oregon State score in the 40's? NOPE. 66-27 WSU
Trap (1-1 YTD): Central Michigan +10.5
For who for what? Why is Syracuse favored by double digits here? Is it because of Eric Dungy's 180ish yards on 45 attempts last week? Is it because they got LSU next week? Meanwhile, Central Michigan is quietly 2-0, and has a legit shot at getting to 3-0 before Conference play begins. Take the points. 23-20 CMU
Total (2-0): Tennessee / Florida Under 49.5
BUTCH. Gators making a stunning offensive change this week...their offensive coordinator will be moving back upstairs to call plays. Great, this will give OC Doug Nussmeier a birds eye view of the garbage that will be on display Saturday. Meanwhile Butch Jones says this game will set the tone for the SEC East. What a joke. He is a disservice to the state of Tennessee. 16-13 Florida

Yes sir. Nice picks. I'm really loving Akron this week. Troy not the same Troy this year and Akron can move the ball on that average Troy defense. 15.5 too many points imo. Interested to see what you like this week4.

As far as a week 4 preview, we'll I'll say that for the first time all year the trap (underdog) is my favorite pick of the week. Podcast taping in a few hours. Picks and write ups will be up in the next 24 hours. Good luck this weekend sir!

We got ourselves a perfect little storm brewing here for the Golden Hurricanes. Yes, Tulsa has a bad defense, I'm aware, but it won't matter this week. Tulsa has scored 117 points in the last 2 weeks and will pour it on once again. So how about the Lobos? Not only is New Mexico's starting QB out, but the backup is also out of commission. So who's playing QB? Toby Gerhart's brother (Stanford RB w/ Luck) who is a graduate transfer from Arizona State will be under center for New Mexico. Slight problem...he hasn't played QB since High School! He played defensive back and baseball at ASU! Huh? 7-13 1 INT in a limited role last week. Oh and do you think Bob Davies is getting prepared for this game or is distracted by the drug testing scandal that broke this week? Player exit interviews chucking him under the bus? Not a good look. 47-13 Tulsa
Trap: (1-2YTD) Mississippi State +6
Danny M + Nick Fitzgerald > Kirby + Fromm
Mississippi State 23-Georgia 22
Total: (3-0) YTD Under 55 Texas A&M / Arkansas
Brett is roughly a -135 favorite to get fired before Summlin in my book. The A&M offense finally came alive in the second half last week against Louisiana. Big deal. This week they will face Arkansas in the Jerry Dome who has been known to dabble in a slopfest or two. 11AM local kick at a stadium with 105,000 people featuring two jokster Qbs and even worse head coaches? Sign me up for an under and I'm not watching a minute of this game.
19-16 Arkansas.
Best of luck to everyone in Week 4!

Looks good to me because I think we all seen the same thing with New Mexico last week on tv. Nothing to hide ,they're in for a good thrashing this weekend as this was one of my lock's as well. BOL

Wasn't even considering A&M/Ark totalsToledo/Miami over 57 is my totals play of weekBut I think this is an interesting one to consider adding... thanks Bol to the week ahead and may you sweep your board
Why do you like the over? I agree with your play BTW, would only bet an over on that game.

It's too risky IMO either way on the line, just too many unknown variables to go with Canes - 13 and/or against them
I look at it very similarly to the Tulsa matchup, and after that offensive performance I think it will take the Canes a little work defensively to stop Toledo
I think by the time Canes get the motor running they won't be able to let off the gas
I see it 34-28 type affair
