So here we are, our first bowl bid in 3 years. And as a fan, I am absolutely pumped for this opportunity. Outsiders see a program at 6-6, playing in your mediocre Texas Bowl in Houston. The die hard in me sees a great opportunity to have ourselves a winning season, take down an SEC opponent, and continue to grow as a program. Tonight, we can take an additional step into the right direction and return to prominence once again.
Now a little insight for what’s going down tonight,
As ya’ll may or may not know, I posted a list of players who’ve declared, been suspended, and who are injured. Our secondary will take a hit tonight, but P.J. Locke is returning from jnjury and will replace DeShon Elliot at safety and we will be without a couple key pieces on an already poor offense (g’luck Beck.) BUT, a little optimism, one of our best OL is returning from injury to replace potential 1st rd. pick Connor Williams. Ive questioned if we’ll be up for this game, but as Tom Herman answered in a presser a couple days ago, “We haven’t been to a bowl game in 3 years, if you can’t get up for this game, then you may as well go join a club.” I truly believe Herman will have these kids up and ready in Houston.
If Lock is able to have success throwing the football like he has in these last couple
months, it’ll be a long day for Texas. We simply do not have the firepower on offense. However, Texas is the more physical team, and we will have chances to bully Mizzou in the trenches. It is what it is, this is a MUST win for Texas, if we hope to be viewed as a program on the rise. Another losing season isn’t an option. There’s also the Tom Herman factor & the idea that he wins outright and has shown to cover a ton of games as the dog. This game is in Texas, so expect to see Longhorn faithful electric at NRG Stadium. I got a feeling, and that feeling is good. Take the points.
HOOK’EM!!!

Florida State is 5 miles from Southern Mississippi. IF nothing else this is a turf battle. I love FSU in the spot. Young team wanting to impress there new head coach. 45-17 fsu. Or something like that.

I am not a Texas fan but I will route for any Texas team in bowls. I hope Texas gives them hell and wins this game. Hook em horns I am sure they will be ready and not give up and play hard all the way to the end. Good Luck to your Longhorns......!!!!

Cant trust texas after the Tech debacle, but Mizzou hasn’t given me a reason to trust them either. They’re hott, but it’s been against the bottom 4 in the SEC in Florida, Tennessee, Vandy, and Arkansas. 3 of those teams fired their HC. Texas could EASILY have been 8-4 this season, if not for horrid TOs by true freshman Sam Ehlinger (fumble at USC in OT, INT vs. Ok State in OT). Also held OU to its lowest game in total yards.

Big descrepancies in this matchup, Missouri nets 1.3 ypp to Texas 0.1 ypp. Texas has been great on D at preventing big plays (#10) and Missouri defense is awful at that (#118) but Texas offense is awful at explosive plays (#120) and Missouri is great (#3).
These bowl games have been playing out to whoever has the defensive advantage but what concerns me is not just a few Texas players have decided not to play but their defensive advantage is not that great when looking at the DL and front 7. Missouri actually has a slightly higher sack rate and creates a lot more havoc with their front 7 than Texas does. Add to this the fact that the Missouri OL ranks #2 (my numbers, some of these is scheme RPO/tempo/quick passes) to Texas's #69 (ranking out of bowl teams...78 bowl teams). Texas did have a bit tougher schedule but it isn't like Missouri was in the bottom quarter so not enough of a concern here.
Think the correct team is favored in this one and actually think there is about 3.5 pts of value in backing Missouri here.
Good luck.
