The most ludicrous thing I've ever seen from a sportsbook

Alright, so I was talking to my friend earlier tonight, who has decided he wants to start taking my advice in what games to bet.  So I tell him to bet Southern Miss +10.5 (what I was seeing at BetUS, which he is using), so he gets on and tells me he got it at +11.5.  I'm thinking, huh?  I log out and look at the guest lines and see USM at +11.5, then log back in and go to the wager page and see +10.5 again.
 
So here's what I think is going on: BetUS makes their lines for most "public" bettors, and when they find a customer who exploits these lines, they adjust those lines for that particular account and put out actual lines.  Here are a few more lines I'm seeing on the guest lines (the lines my friend can bet) that are a couple points different on my account:
 
West Virginia -8.5
Miami -26
Va Tech -20
Connecticut -14.5
Michigan -18.5
Penn State -4.5
Oklahoma -24
Alabama PK
Louisville -10.5
Clemson -4.5
Hawaii -28
Virginia -8.5
Ohio State -27
BYU -7.5
Arizona State -16.5
 
This is unbelievable, and I can't believe I just now noticed it...BetUS is not giving me the lines they're giving other customers.  I know they're a bad book yada yada yada, but I've never seen anything like this...

Bodog does the EXACT same thing... they give you a "betting profile" after awhile and adjust the lines they give a specific member accordingly depending on whether they are a fave or dog bettor

If I called and complained would they be forced to give me the same line as my friend?  Fuck, I hardly bet enough for them to pull this bullshit with me...

Doubt they have hundreds of different numbers for different log in or accounts based on betting patterns (dog or favorite oriented players or homer teams). If they did it would be reserved for the big money players. Some locals probably shade numbers a 1/2 here or there, not quite as obvious as these or would lose customers. A real book (i.e. not betus) generally puts the same numbers up and then adjusts or deals with it regardless.

This is pretty common knowledge, and gets brought up all the time at SBR...

This is why you don't play anywhere other than the top few books.

lindy give your friend money and use that book for dogs, that happend to me last football season and they adjusted this year, this is not out of the ordinary for betus to do this i have seen this before, use it as a dog book bro

I'm confused.  Isn't this a good thing?  You've got a book that, in essence, is giving you extra points on any dog you like.  That's money over time.  Just open another account, or several, to play the favs.  Hell, I may have to open one of these accounts, as what I see at BetJam and 5Dimes is pretty much the "public" line.

I do business with the outfit mentioned.  Use this to your advantage.  The numbers come out on Monday and are adjusted by mid-day Monday.  (i.e.) I got OU at 21.5 on Monday A.M,  it is 24.

i have betus account and play hawaii the most, the point spread is 4 pts higher than other sites. sometimes i really dont know what to do. lost a couple of game this season by 1-2 pts. on other games i should have won. heading to vegas this weekend anyone got a sports  book they like the best?

If they feel you are only taking sharp numbers, you will get a sharper line. Sportsbooks are like the FBI. They profile your every move!

I also have Betus and have not noticed that big of a difference on lines.  Might be time to look at some other books though.

if they give you a bad line take it, dont go against your gow or anything, but if you see a game you were leaning one way and theyre fuckin you take it. its free points.
 
atleast do a couple trial runs and see how you would of done.
you'll lose some games and be like, i knew it why did i go against myself, but atleast it will keep em honest. and i think youll profit from it.
 
i killed my local w/ on bullshit lines, until i found a new one.
of course his lines always went against the public teams, this is a lil different.

this is probably true and defeats the purpose of my earlier advice. if youre just getting a shrper line instead of a line based on your tendencies, no reason to fade yourself.

Could I not call them and put them on the spot regarding the matter?  Could I not sit there and say "yeah, my friends sitting right next to me is getting one line, and my other friends are getting those same lines, and mine are completely different."  Wouldn't they be obligated to atleast give me the same lines as my buddy if I put them on the spot about it?

Maybe I could threaten to withdraw my money if not, although I don't know if that would help.  But how can you say "no, we've profiled you as an underdog bettor so you don't get those lines" to a customer when they ask to simply get the same lines as everyone else?

are you sure this happens? i gotta say that bodog is often a favorites site as those lines are tons harder than they are at other sites...but the really give me different lines than other people? pointspread.com is a site where they list spreads at all the sites and it's usually right on with bodog (early at times so i know to bet a team at a certain time before it moves)..i just have a hard time believing that they'd put the work in to do this because they don't want me to lose all my money they just want even money so that would make it very tough for them to get = money with different lines for each person

Lindetrain, I'm so glad you brought this topic up!

I thought my book (betED) was doing the exact same thing to me, but it turns out they're not -- they just normally put out extremely favorable dog lines all the time which I love to exploit.  If my book was "shading" the line on me, I would definitely use another book. 

This is currently what I'm showing at my book: Southern Miss +11.5, USF +8.5 (that's incredible), Memphis +6.  Actually, my lines exactly match the lines you posted above.  I recommend betED for all you dog players out there.  Their limits aren't too high since it's mostly a square book (I would think), but their customer service is top-notch and I've never had a problem withdrawing/depositing money from them.

Its probably because you are John Anthony and they are scared of your expert capping abilities.  I have not noticed that on Betus but I normally don't look at the guest lines.

i see the same thing on betus, thats what i use also. however, i would consider myself a favorite/over bettor more often than a dog/undder bettor, and i am getting the clemson -3 on my logged in and -4.5 on the guest lines. why would they help me out?

i think its simply an error on betus that the lines on the guest page are all 1.5 to 2.5 pts more. its like a database error or something. are you sure your buddy even placed the bet, or was he just reading it off the guest page?

Alright, so I called my buddy and asked if I could log into his account and look at the lines...sure enough they were different than the ones I was getting.
 
I called BetUS and got transferred 5 times, until I finally spoke to someone who said I was on a different "profile" than my friend.  They told me they would transfer me to a supervisor who could take care of it for me, and when I spoke to him, he said they could not change my profile to my friend's profile.
 
Here's the kicker - they told me they could change my friend's profile to my profile (meaning he gets the normal lines like me), but couldn't change my profile to his.  I asked why and he said "the system wouldn't let him do it."  So I started bitching about how it makes absolutely no sense that different customers can't bet the same lines, and he told me the only way I could get those lines was if I started up an account.

I called out Bodog and sportsinteraction for doing this back in my early days and all they did was give me bullshit that 'oh, the lines haven't updated for you just yet, they will" and sure enough a few minutes later , they did - probably by some clown that manually adjusted them.

those kinds of books are garbage.
