Do they really want to win?
You answer sure they do!
Third straight MAC crown, BCS bowl, why would they ever not want to win, this is sports.
Two scenarios - 1) Win this game and go to a BCS Bowls to be absolutely shellacked as 20 point dogs or
2) Lose this game and play in a nice bowl against a good opponent and have a change to win....

Hmmm-Undefeated sounds great but that is not really even in the picture, somehow, someway they lose this game.

Jordan Lynch is undefeated in his career vs MAC teams.

You know what they say about streaks........

NIU covers tomorrow.

Take the profit......

And fade NIU in the BCS game.

You raise great questions which make people think.  You had some great points there.  However, to lose so that you can go to a cheaper bowl and win over weaker opponent is not sportsmanship.  Lynch looks like a challenger, I think he would rather fight against a tougher guy and lose than beat a weaker guy and win.3

Win over this game would add more benefits for the following reasons:

1. keep the record for 13 wins streak ... sounds pretty good eh

2. more money on BCS bowls (I'm sure the school would love this)

3. third straight conference tittle

4. as I stated above, more challenging.  Even if they lose in the BCS.  NFL seeks challenger.

I'm not saying that NIU will win this game because BG has a good football team but they will try.  Cover the spread or not that's another story and that what we bettors care for.

You're high bro... They are going to get a huge paycheck if they get a bcs bid... They don't care about being a dog or getting stomped..it's great publicity regardless.

Dumb thread. 

The MAC gets millions of dollars with NIU in a BCS bowl. No way you lose on purpose to have a shot to win in a bowl nobody cares about. We're talking MILLIONS of dollars on the line.

Lol no way they prefer to loose this game. You don't think they want to get back to a BCS game and try and have a better performance than they did last year?

I think what Crash is referring to is the possibility that this type of thinking might seep into the subconscious of the team. As in, some of the players might feel this way just slightly. We always talk about a team thinking a certain way, as if said team is a collective, like the Borg. But in reality it's just a certain segment of the team that might be affected. Anyway, I don't think this will be the case, but crash at least raises the possibility.

There is no money in this game for the players, the money goes to the schools. The kids could care less about the money, they get nothing. What is in it for them?
They will be smeared by a Alabama (could you imagine) or other BCS team (even Okie State).
Bowling Green wins this game, NIU has nothing to play for. They have seen the big bad BCS teams and will want no part of it.
This is not Iowa or Purdue, this is a big time school, big time program going against a MAC team. Yikes.

The amount of money for a BCS bowl game vs any other bowl game far outweighs anything else. Money always wins in the end

No athlete wants to lose a game, let alone a conference championship game, in order to avoid an opponent. I mean common, you can't be serious with this thread, right??

You clearly didn't play a sports at a competitive level..... Certainly not at the college level..... They will play a hard tough game and give all efforts. They will not loose or not cover to play in a less of a bowl game or whatever your talking about.... I'm taking N Illy to cover the 3.5.
