You gotta be kidding me.
Reports are that UCLA and USC are 90% done in their negotiations for joining BIG10 Football as early as 2024.
So much for the historic alliance between ACC, BIG10, and PAC12.

The dominoes will fall fast now. The Power Five is now looking more like the Power Three. The PAC12 and Big 12 may end up merging out of necessity.

College football so big the conferences with the leverage are turning into private equity firms .. Tough to say where it ends up but im sure plenty of money grubbers have already modeled out maybe like 40ish teams in 2 conferences could pretty much command all the TV revenue and get every major recruit to play in it .. really hope not ..

@Bridge1
yeah sad to see-guess it is the Pac-10 again --I thought that it was bad enough having Texas and OU going to the SEC but this takes the cake; travel is going to get crazy and good luck with the 9am kickoffs for the LA schools; A lot of this is on mismanagement and arrogance of the PAC-12--Larry Scott did a really poor job as the commish of the PAC for over a decade--the PAC-12 network was a bust and the annual TV money was barely half of the Big-10; Pac-12 after-dark games--sh--t they were even late kickoff times living out west--lack of eastern TV exposure was killing the PAC-12 among other things..rant over! I miss Saturdays with Keith Jackson and only 2 kick-off times!

@docpj72
Spot on......Scott ran the Pac-12 into the ground with every move, starting by setting up offices in SF for about $8M/year in rent. Just a friggin disaster.

Money Money Money Money Money
Neuheisel going off on radio today, happy about it. UCLA sent out newsletter about travel, says with the extra money they could have private planes and other amenities. Big recruiting boon for both as now players get a better national TV spotlight to earn that NIL cash. UCLA basketball gets a huge boost. Lincoln Riley can't just show up and beat on a weak conference again, but he does have his $110,000,000 to help his ease that pain.

@DrStrangelove
yes. I see the remaining 10 PAC 12 schools adding BYU, and Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State to get to 16…Not exactly SEC and Big -10, but still formidable…

Yeah no doubt guys I dont think travel or anything else is gunna factor into the decision its institutions and conferences looking at dollar signs and NCAA got beat down into total ineptitude so there's just nobody guarding the gates of the game at this point so every school just jockeying for survival ..
Its gotta be easy for some of these people to imagine up a good CFB product where just the biggest brands and best players are all duking it out... The saving grace is when they frustrate and turn off so many fan bases that they are left with another big ratings disaster like the CFP, a real can't miss slam dunk ratings bonanza equipped with a bunch of corporate lackey's picking the teams ....... Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers and LA teams to the B-10 huh? ... mmm-kay we'll see what happens ..

@BWS77
yup-lol basketball got lost in this but I'm sure that UCLA is preferring the 2 pm tips with MSU, Michigan etc compared to playing Oregon State at 11 pm EST --the PAC really had an issue with both mismanagement and underexposure and they were getting beaten in the recruiting game for the most part by SEC, BIG-10 etc..that bonehead decision of the PAC to go with Kevin Warren of the BIg 10 and ACC rejecting the 12 team football playoff was a nail in the coffin...IMHO a 2 year over/under of the PAC's existance for now--funny how there were big changes in 2011-Nebraska leaving the Big-8 for the Big-10, Maryland moving, but not a whole lot for a decade, but that OU/Texas really started this, and the bottled-up disparity fort the have's and have-nots has been building since the CFP playoff started and TV money started getting really big--crazy times!

@themaceo
Very curious about the ACC... would the SEC also interested in the Miami and Tallahassee market?
We're definitely headed to 2 or 3 super conferences and they will most likely be independent of the NCAA.

IMO, Because of the ACC Grant of Rights several schools in the ACC would need to ban together to leave. That would force ESPN to renegotiate the tv contract and most likely would dissolve the conference making the penalty for leaving almost nothing.

As far as ‘making money’ goes the schools/conferences will always always come out on top. NIL and paying players we’ll never hear about years down the road was never a good idea. The best players get a free education at great universities, get to play the game they love on a national stage and interview for the big league on a weekend basis but it’s never good enough. Sure the schools made money off of them, but guess what, they’re going to continue to do so on an even bigger scale.
Totally ruins a lot of what make college sports so great — the tradition. Literally going to need to introduce an NIL salary cap at some point for competitive balance.
You also lose some of the competitiveness. I know I posted this previously but was at the UM/OSU game last year, OSU has a significantly better NIL program and watching their sideline they also looked like a bunch of paid kids who didn’t give a sh*t about the game. Sad to see.

I remember old timers warning about this 20+ years ago when the conversation of playoffs and players getting paid came up...
Buddy Sam at Otb was in his mid 90's saying " careful what you wish for , few years of playoffs and players getting paid , will lead to the conferences merging into 2 or 3 big ones "
Wish he was here to see this BS

I really don’t see the excitement in having 2-3 super conferences at all I think the idea is awful . I really hate this for the Pac 12 and Big 12 and all the schools being left out. I would say the ACC will be next to be picked apart
