I hope I can provide a little insight as I am a huge sec homer, but I also follow all college football from the Mac to the pac(12). The most important factor in all this sec fandom is simple. Teams like tcu, oregon, and even ohst, could without a doubt beat every team in the sec in a one game matchup. Here's what all the hoopla is about from the fans. tcu is very good, but when playing for example, Alabama at Tuscaloosa, followed by Arkansas at home, followed by ole miss at Oxford, then play south Carolina at home etc etc etc. The problem is when you play great team after great team that is also fueled by 40,50,60 years of rivalrys and disappointments, and huge emotional wins and losses, it makes each game every week the biggest game of the year. Teams like (this year) fsu, and ohst while having their own rivalry games seem to get a little more time between huge games to prepare. For example if say Arkansas who is a really good team this year, played ohst schedule you could make a strong case that they would be undefeated. Not 100% for a fact but you could argue that they run the table. The 6th or 7th best team in the sec!! Conversely if ohst played Arkansas schedule you can say that they would probably have at least 2 losses if not more. So I don't think that "we" think all of "our" are better than all other teams, it's just that the regular season is so much more of a grind week in and week out. Hope my rambling helps. Just make my take on things. Trying to put in words what most get all bent outta shape about.
So............other teams don't play tough games throughout the season? gotcha....
Look, that is utter nonsense.
What you're doing is called excuse making. SEC fans can't have it both ways. They CAN"T! IF you win it's because of this sec nonsense...if you lose it's called what? excuse making time.
Hey just call it like it is.... SEC never plays anyone OOC. They play each other and use the " week after week " propaganda...

Good thought and I personally could see a lot of validity in it. Think about it from an SEC West perspective. I'm sure those teams are buying into their own hype (whether legit or not) so when you are hailing from the "best division in college football ever" you are really playing for the National championship or at least the playoff. When you don't get in there, how easy is it to get up for any other team, especially one from a perceived far lessor conference i.e. Georgia Tech who didn't even WIN their conference. If you believe in letdown, trap games at all I would argue this is the ultimate trap situation.
Do these teams really care about beating Georgia Tech? TCU? Probably not. They shot their load, it wasn't enough, now they just want to enjoy the Bowl perks and partying. Win or lose, who cares? all that matters is next year and winning the SEC. Winning or losing the Fiesta bowl and such ultimately does NOTHING for them next year except maybe a higher preseason ranking which in reality only makes it harder (target on your back type situation). Unless an SEC team somehow felt slighted about not getting into the NC picture, then that'd be a different story...much more to prove, way more hungry. TCU had that motivation, Miss didn't. Neither did Miss St. I think. For the elite SEC teams, any bowl outside of the playoffs is a glorified preseason game in my opinion.
Even though I live in the South, I am not biased to any team nor conference. With that being said, I watch a lot of games & you Sir have hit the nail on the Head. I see very much Lack of Effort, they are ready for the end. I don't blame them, I mean take a Glance @ their schedules. I am not taking anything away from the teams which came away with the Wins yesterday, but trust when I say we are not seeing Sec Teams giving the effort in these Bowl Games. This has always been a factor in betting the Bowls, you must consider who is going to show up. Doesn't matter what Conference your in, they're kids & it's the Holidays

Think it's a little bit of all of the above. Georgia is a phenominal team but they lost to Tech in the regular season finale. Tech D held them down most of the game, then Georgia smoked what was thought to be a top 5 D in Louisville.
Surely G Tech is good, they will finish in the top 10, but I doubt they put up a double digit win vs Miss St during the reg season. That was surely a letdown for them and they did not prepare well enough to guard the triple option.
The fact that Miss schools even competed in the SEC this year tells you that the conference has taken a step back but Bama wins the national championship this year to continue SEC domination.
Still the best conference but not by as wide a margin as in previous years. Looks like ACC might be second best right now.

also, the fact that a subpar Missouri team played in the SEC championship this year tells you something. I think Missouri loses outright today and won't score more than 17 pts. Crap QB, crap offense and the defense is over-rated.

I have no horse in this race, other than my money. This is a good discussion that would be interesting to have tomorrow. Can't help but think SEC WINS 2 of 3 today (sorry Sec haters , again I have no bias). A three team SEC SU parlay pays 1: 2:13. I'm on it. Think weakest link is Auburn. Bol to all and happy new year whatever side you are on!

maybe in a lot of SEC teams minds and coaching staffs its national championship or bust, so of course they would never lie down in a bowl game, but all the preparation isnt there.....
