As much as it hurts for me to write this I feel like I need to do so. There are some things you guys should know before taking the gamecocks at +22 on Saturday:
Although we currently have the # 1 defense in the SEC, this year that doesnt mean shit if you look at how the normal dominant defensive teams have played. Tennessee, UGA, LSU, Auburn, Miss St all have less than average years in terms of defense. Florida and Alabama have good defenses. My pint is if it were any other year with the gamecocks current statistics they would be middle of the pack. Please don't be fooled by our # 1 ranking. Our starting safety Culliver is suspended for the first half. His backup Auguste is at about 85%. Although Cook, Stewart and Munnerlyn will play on Sunday's I look for UF to be able to move the ball against rather easily. I am not sure if you guys remember last years game but Florida beat us badly in Columbia and they could have beaten us by more than they did.
As for our offense, there isn't much. Dont let the Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee games fool you. We only scored 26 against UAB and 23 against wofford. Ou offensive line is not good at all. our running back Davis is below average. Althouhg the freshman Baker has played well. Smelley is not dependable and will make 1 good play out of 4. Garcia is a good athlete with skills, but in the swamp Saturday will be a tough challenge. Also Spurrier plans to use the rotating QB's against Florida. I don't like this at all. Florida will be able to penetrate our line and get to Smelley often. Garcia will bring some elusiveness but not enough.
As for the special teams. the cocks aren't bad but dont even compare to the gator return guys. Succop is good but is having an off year.
As for the Spurrier factor......this is the only reason they might have a chance against the cover. He always draws up a good game plan against UF. But his coaching strategy cannot offset the fact he doesn't have an offensive line.
There is a lot of hype on this game due to Spurrier coming home. UF is rolling right now. As much as I hate to say it. the Gators will win by 28. No way the cocks can keep up with them. This line is also known as a "sucker" line by vegas trying to get action on the cocks. They know and I know the gators will win by more than 22 Saturday.
With that being said.........I hope the gamecocks whip their ass....but it might get ugly.

As a fellow Gamecock I must agree. Our defense has been getting the ESPN folks excited and people will assume that Fulmer was on the edge of being fired if he failed against the Cocks. But don't let the media fool you. On Defense we are a bit above average at best, but our mediocrity on offense is the deciding factor. Spurrier is going to again rotate Garcia and Smelley at QB. Against lessor teams you might be able to frustarte them w/ some trickery, but Florida is very well rounded and their defense is more disciplined. I think the 21 is a right number and would only lean slightly to the Cocks since the # is up to 23.

This is probably a no play for me as it seems like alot of points but I also have little confidence in a freshman qb going into the Swamp and the fact that Urban will be running this one up if he has a shred of an oppty.
Nice write up.
