Michigan defense is LOADED..  Doe's anyone really think that , this Washington offense is going to put 30 40 points on this team when Michigan hasn't allowed anyone all year over 30?? Ranked #1 in the country. NO!!!

Dont tell me Michigan hasn't faced anyone either. Ohio State, Penn State , Alabama all high powered offenses couldn't crack that.....

On overall defense, Michigan is the #1 defense in the country. The best Washington has played is Texas (#15) and Oregon (#19). Now, Texas actually has a really solid interior defense and are comparable to Michigan in one way: Rush Defense. Their rush defense is ranked #5 in the country (Michigan is #4) and Texas's interior line is the reason they are a top 15 defense total.

But to beat Washington, you need to get pressure on Penix and you need to be great in coverage. And that's what Michigan has...

PFF grades Michigan's pass rush as the 4th best in the country and it's coverage as the #1 unit in the country. Texas has the #16 ranked pass rush combined with the #63 ranked secondary. They handled the run and got some pressure, but they didn't separate receivers from the ball. Oregon has a great coverage scheme (#14 in the country) but a #45 ranked pass rush.

      The problem here is that Washington has a +8  in  AOPR ..and a Mathematical season rate guide favoring Wash by 0.2 ppg overall which makes both teams even on a NF. One team (Wash) can score at will ( 34 pure ppg/road) the opponent Michigan doesn't score at will ( 17-19 pppg). One team (Wash ) gives up 31 pure per game exact (recent road form) the opponent(Mich) gives up 18- 20. vs  lesser AOPR caliber teams.

     Because of Washingtons +8 AOPR (caliber of competition) superiority they will be able to score at least 30 on Michigan's defense. and because Michigan with their their paltry road offense of 17-19 pure points per game , they will have a hard time scoring 30 vs Wash defense, maybe 28 at the most.

     Michigan's last 4 road opponents couldn't score more than 15 pure ppg on average. Was it because Mich had this solid defense or was it because the opponents offense Mich faced was lacking. I would have to say the ladder. Wash is no Penn St / Maryland / Iowa, they are a power house and Penix delivers . The only decent  offense Mich faced in their 4 game road series(recent form ) was Bama, and it took them to OT to do it and struggled while getting there. The teams Mich faced on the road are not good offenses exceot Ala. and now Michigan gets to face one they haven't seen  in a while, in fact, when they did they lost(TCU). I'm looking for a cover on the dog..Michigan can still win this game, if they do it wont be by more than a fg. My score prediction 34-28 Wash. Both teams played weak non-conference slates so there's little objective way to compare them

I will note that against a veritable "Murderer's Row" of East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers that UM averaged 32 points on offense

One thing about these playoff games is they are topsey turvey..seems like anything can happen, including massive blowouts

To me, I think the result of this game may have skewed distribution ... UW with better chance of blowout win but maybe UM with bet chance of winning game than ML would suggest

Boy, if those are “high powered offenses” imagine what Washington’s top 10 offense must be.  Dare I say, UNSTOPPABLE???

Any feelings about the over/under 55? I want to say under because Michigan loves to run the ball and waste clock. UW seems to do their own version of that by running clock down between plays. But, UW’s ability is score at will makes me afraid of the under.
