Week 8 Observations and overreactions

We are officially in the 2nd half of the season

Iowa looked every bit of what we knew they were, turning it over on their 1st play of each half along with 3 other times.  Ohio State offense was sluggish in the 1st half, good coverage by the Hawkeyes secondary but that didn't hold up.  Ryan Day was pissed at halftime and the Buckeyes responded with a 28-0 2H effort

Kansas looked like the Kansas we all remember but came back some before Baylor put a stamp on it late

Friggin Cuse... could have put a huge hole in the Playoff case for the fraud that is Clemson.  A dominant 1st half gave way to getting shutout 2H, credit to the Tigers defense.  Tucker only 5 carries but 54 yards, strange.  Dabo had enough of DJ playing for the wrong Orange team and pulled him for Klubnik who did enough to take the lead late.   DJ is 'still our guy' after the game, but if true that leash is only an inch long now

Speaking of Orange teams with turnover problems... The U coughed it up 8 times to Duke in a horrible home loss.  Once again, why is this team getting so much respect from bookmakers?

I hear there was some MACtion fuckery, maybe someone can fill in on the Toledo game

Wisconsin derailed the Boilermakers in a surprise to many

Good Bo Nix showed up and was dropping dimes all over UCLA.  Big turn in the game in early 2Q when Ducks went for and recovered onside kick to consistently stay 2 scores ahead of the Bruins.  

Quinn Ewers had his worst game and Spencer Sanders played the opposite of bad as the Sooners came back and beat the Horns late.

Ok, LSU has my attention now.  Went down 17-3 then finished the game 42-3.  

Tulane was up 35-0.  Tulane was lucky to cover -7.  

Bama won easily, but could not run the ball.  Will Rogers threw it 60 times for 6 points.  Miss St broke their TD drought in Tuscaloosa on the final play of the game

Spencer Rattler Heisman Watch:  12-25 168yds 1 lost fumble.  In a win.  Over Texas A&M.  Jimbo is looking like the old man that the world has passed by.  Turnovers and a KO return TD doomed the Aggies early and they just didn't have enough to come back.  Back to back years of being HIGHLY ranked in preseason, massive recruiting classes and this is what you get.  Can't even joke about calling them Texas 8 & 4 because that is a long shot

I guess Penn State was impressive beating a one man Minnesota?

Kansas State built up a 28-10 lead even with Adrian Martinez getting injured but TCU finished with a 28-0 run to keep control of the Big12

Pretty slow week, a few chips fell (no pun intended UCLA).  One more weekend of October then November will have some bangers including Bama @ LSU on the 5th

 I do understand the Clemson observation,  but if they run the table ( which I can't see any obstacles until ACC championship game ) how can you not include them in playoffs ? 

Dumbo Fisher is 4-6 last 10 games and A&M has not scored more than 25 points in those games. If he is fired after this season he is owed $85+ million.  Kevin Sumlin went 44 -21 in 5 seasons and was canned with his worse year being 8-5… Dumbo Fisher is in his 5th year and is 37-19 so far

Now that I'm awake, some things I forgot to mention

Gamecocks have won 4 straight

Oklahoma State had ZERO penalties.  Texas had many.  Some are saying it's an 'F you' to the Longhorns from the Big12 higher ups

Iowa had allowed 5 Offensive TD's all year, OSU scored 5 offensive TDs

There are a lot of Pac12 teams that are undefeated at home.  USC has the biggest road win so far at Utah.  Someone will have to break serve on the road 

Regarding Clemson above...  The Big10 and SEC Champ is in...  then you have a 1 loss USC Pac12 champ, undefeated TCU Big12 champ and undefeated Clemson it will be very interesting.   Their best win may end up being Wake or Syracuse.  They have an FCS win on the schedule, the committee hates that (TCU does also).  I believe we get the first Playoff rankings on Nov 1, that's when we will see how the committee feels about the conference rankings

Truth.  Henderson seems a gear slower this year.  Miyan Williams is a great finisher with his power. and will be a major asset for any bad weather games.  There were a few plays yesterday were Stroud could have pulled the ball and had easy 1st down.  That threat has been lacking all year.  It will settle my mind if I think to myself that they are saving those plays for bigger games to catch Michigan/Playoff teams off guard 

Honestly believe if you had cal last night you were lucky not be down 3 tds early in the second quarter. All my streaks ended kansas on the spread rice on the spread and huskies totals. I believe hawaii is being devalued after its slow start. Lastly dont lay 10 on the road with bc at uconn this week

My point being is that if Sumlin was fired for that record..Why should Dumbo not be fired?  Just because he has a dumb contract?  If he was on 5 year contract with 3 years left..he would gone already...

I remember watching last year and thought the same thing. Stroud just doesn’t seem to have that awareness in the pocket. That lack of run game for OSU was pretty shocking. Stroud just chucking it when it’s a 30 point game in the 4Q. Maybe they were just looking ahead to Penn state but that wasn’t a very impressive showing (the score was basically Iowas offensive ineptness - like 6 buckeye drives started inside the Iowa 40)

I think we all can see now that Mario Cristobal is a bad coach..He is a great recruiter.....

Worst tempo game I've seen them play.  Offense was stalled even on the short fields, I think 2 of the turnovers resulted in 3 plays and a FG.  They never got that going

Busy weekend for me, didn't watch any games.  Gotta make room for life once in awhile.

See Penn St didn't let me down. They were really flat off BYE vs Mich., bad coaching maybe?

Up 40-10 entering 4th quarter and Day leaves Stroud in slinging the ball? That's what the box score says. Why do I get the feeling Day trying to get a balance of run game with pass game (last yr had to lean on pass game, cost them) is maybe discouraging Stroud as Heisman numbers not materializing? So leave him in and still was under the prop bet of 302 yards passing. Eh, maybe just the Michigan fan in me. 

And 66 Buckeye rushing yards, hmmmm. Still an impressive final score, took care of business.

In a conversation about Clemson, Heather Dinich just pounded the point about the '4 Best Teams' getting in.  The committee will not think highly of them

any team in the big 5 conf. that finish undefeated is gonna get in, unless there are more than 4 undefeated teams.

Illinois has  been winning and covering more than their share this season.  Illinois has very little history of being a strong away team.  I would only take them as a D even in a good season like this year.

Illinois has benefitted from great matchups and very good lines to achieve their 2022 great SU and ATS record.  It now that they will face some inflammation from the books.

Tell me which of these teams is having a great season, Okay its fair of you to say neither is NEB but in NONE of the previous games (Except week 1 against WYO) was the line as high as -7.  Now its a road game to boot?@!  They lost of the Road to Indiana and they could do exactly the same thing here in this game.  The money line is in play here on Nebraska.

Throw out Nebraska's first 3 games, they are now seeing coverable lines and doing so.

Nebraska is one of my best this week. 

If you were gonna skip a week of watching, this was a good one to pass on.   UFC was on in the afternoon so I paid more attention to that from 2-5 than anything else

a one loss USC won’t be getting in with the scenario you describe. In your scenario, it’s big 10, sec, acc (if undefeated), and big 12 champ (if undefeated).  Any losses, next in line would be another sec team. EG Alabama or Tenn (assuming ga is the sec champ).  PAC 12 champ with a loss is way down the list.
