WHY IS MICHIGAN A FAVORITE ???

In the Vegas paper Michigan is -7 against Utah.&#xD;&#xA;Mich. is returning 3 starters an a freshman QB on offense ,and 7 on defense.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Utah returns 8 starters on offense with a good QB (B. Johnson ).And 6 on defense .LY they averaged 26 points on  OFF,and only gave up 16 on DEF.

Definately a bunch of unknowns with Michigan. I think they will be solid on defense, and will be used to facing a spread offense in practice. I really think they will hold Utah to 17, or less. That being said, I&#x27;d say it&#x27;s impossible to even try a guess at how the Wolves will do when they have the ball.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Even with the questions, if it goes to -3, I&#x27;m on Michigan.

Michigan is probably the favorite to create more equal balance betting on the game. Not sure how many people would be willing to bet on Utah if they had to give points to Michigan in Ann Arbor. I know I would take the Wolverines if they where getting points in this one. With them laying 7? Good luck this year.

Mich. played Utah in 2002 at home . Score 10 to 7

Mich. has played the MWC 5 times and won 4 lost 1.Average score 20 to 15.

With Mich. returning starters and freshy QB situation . Mich. -7 dosen't look to good to me.

I wanted to start a thread but I saw this one already, what are your thoughts on Michigan o/u 7.5 wins. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw this. This team WILL NOT go 8-4, not with away games at ND, PSU, and OSU. They are starting a first year guy at QB, and lack any depth at Oline. Their defense is pretty sound but they have TOO many revenge games on their schedule. They have MSU who they have beaten the last 6 years, ND who they POUNDED the last 2 years, and PSU who hasnt beat UM in almost 13 years (and they all have better teams on paper). ot ot mention Wisonsin and Utah, then OSU, how do they win 8 games (not counting the bowl game)

Because Michigan on a good day is better than utah and they are capable of beating utah by 7.  I hate when people get mad or act like someone is stupid because a line is not what you think it should be. If you think utah is the play at &#x2B;7 then put your money on utah and stfu. I can hear idiot osu fans already crying because usc is favored.

Utah is a solid team, however I think Michigan will win and cover. They will do ok this year, maybe win 8-9 games. 8-4 with possibly a bowl win. I dont respect the big 10 and imo anybody could win it.

I show Mich. stability at 2 and Utah at 17.  Power Ratings are both at 46????   Stability wise Utah would be the bet here..

I would have to agree with the other posters that you cannot have a MWC team favored in Ann Arbor the first week of the season and expect anywhere near even action. Should probably close at Mich -2.5/-3, I would think.

When Utah came into town in 2002 with Alex Smith they easily covered the 11pt spread and had chances of the outright upset - and that was against a decent Mich team that went 10-3 on the season with only 1 loss at home (iowa).

This Ute team should be better than that squad with quality returning starters on both sides of the ball. This is versus a Mich team that is returning only 3 on offense AND completely shifting its offense attack to the spread with players not recruited for it. The QBs have 1 career pass attempt and the oline has a total of 16 career starts - although their backs are ruthless. The Dline for the wolves should be insane with 4 NFL prospects and the DBs are real good. Linebacking is a question mark though.

All in all, the D should keep the Wolverines in the game and there is talent on Offense to come up with the outright win - but against a superior and far more experienced team that along with BYU in the MWC has their eyes on a BCS game - even at home I think they lose:

The line is where it is simply b/c of trying to balance the action on the teams. Anything less than a touchdown for Michigan against a non-bcs team in its home opener would have tons of money from Michigan pouring in on them. A lot of people who bet only do it on their favorite few teams so boks have to account for that. Michigan definitely has more fans than the Utah.

As for why I think the line is actually about right would be Michigan's defense. RichRod coming in and changing the offense around won't affect the defense, which is supposed to be pretty good. Their D alone should keep them in some games until the offesnse is figured out.

Their D will be different as well as DC Ron English left and they brought in the DC from Stanford last year.  UM D should be good- but will also have a new look from a package view, not from a personnel view...
