I'm a Pittsburgh sports writer and covered WVU all year (including covering them tomorrow night). Watching this team all year I learned a lot of things (mostly bad).
The most important factor: they are underachievers. They have talent that most teams outside of the SEC would envy offensively.
The problem is, as good as Geno Smith is physically, is how bad the kid is mentally. He tends to go against Holgorsen and call his own plays. If you watched the Syracuse game, you watched him audible into two deep throw INTs which killed any momentum. He audibled on a 4th down sneak against UCONN in the 1st half and completely botched the play, with half the line jumping early on a 1st snap count and the other standing still. He did it again at the end of the LSU 1st half, when that ball he threw on 3rd down was picked and taken to the 8-yard line.
Every time he takes matters into his own hands he blows something apart...momentum that is. Now he doesn't have Dustin Garrison in the backfield as he is out for this game. There will NOT be much stock put in the ground game for them, which tells me that he will feel more weight on his shoulders to get something down.
He will pass for 300+ yards tomorrow. He will run for about 30 more yards. But how many INTs do we add to the statline? How many fumbles, forced plays and silly audibles go in to the mix?
WVU is a coinflip team. What they did in the UCONN game is a microcosm of who they are. They got pushed around, underplayed and failed miserably in the 1st half. They came back and put up a ridiculous 2nd half leading to a blowout win. Had they just played consistent throughout LSU game they may have won. Instead, they relied on a 2nd half rally. Pitt was so bad that they got lucky a shitty 1st half didn't affect them.
I will NOT be betting on this game. There are too many ifs. A 1st half bet on Clemson may not be a bad idea, but Geno Smith is such a questionable character it is hard to tell what he will do (will be thinking).

so what? The public was on Houston and the line dropped from -9 to 6.5.
Any team that has Virginia in it is a fraud! Look at VT today!
