One possible motivator for the Bulldogs: They're underdogs, as the Huskies are favored by one point. Another is the chance to get back into the Top 25 rankings.

Northern Illinois, meanwhile, has its own motivating factors: A victory would help the players prove they can win without Jerry Kill, the coach who left them at the end of the regular season to lead Minnesota. Another reason? They could set the school record for wins in a season.

Interim coach Tom Matukewicz said those factors are important.

"The more motivated team," he said, "has a better shot."

Then there are the Top 25 rankings the Huskies are hoping to hop back in as well. They were No. 24 before losing to Miami (Ohio) in the MAC title game. The Huskies got seven votes in the Associated Press poll this week, while Fresno State received two.

"Go through the list," Matukewicz said. "I don't worry about being ready, I worry about being too ready."

That's a problem Fresno State's last two senior classes wish they would have had, and one the Bulldogs probably wouldn't mind having today, either.

Fresno State football coach Pat Hill said that after this year's final game of the regular season, players were brought right back into conditioning, a change from what often occurs after the last game. The aim was to have the Bulldogs at a higher level for today's Humanitarian Bowl in Boise.

only thing scares me about fresno is missing top defensive player and a california team playing in 80% chance of snow but slight lean is fresno.... NIU COACH DIPPED ON THEM TO MINNESOTA DIDNT EVN HAVCE THE RESPECT FOR TEAM TO COACH THEM LAST GAME BOWL GAME also hate NIU since they blew that Miami(OH) game when favored by  -17 lost entire game they will never get my money again

This Bowl Game reminds of how Hawaii (my alumni), was 12-0 with Colt Brennan and June Jones. 1st in the NCAAF in passing yards but when it came down to the bowl game against a different conference, they shit the bed. Its not that they didn't have the talent, the Washington Huskies were just bigger and stronger. Brennan was pulled out of that game and Hawaii got smashed.

I see the same happening here with the MAC representative in N> ILL.

Fresno for me.

N.ILL -1.5... ChandlerHarnish guides a balanced offense that ranks 13th in nation averaging 37.9 points. The junior broke a 46-year-old school record by amassing 2,991 total yards and matched a season high when he threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns in the MAC title game. Chad Spann,  the MAC player of the year, leads a running game (264.8 yards per game) ranked seventh in the FBS.

And the injuries and suspensions will play a role in Fresno's loss today, Take the over 57 as well.

NIU has had 8 road games this year. Fresno has played 5 road games this year. Who do you think is more prepared to play on the road?
My answer would be NIU. factored in with Fresno St suspensions warm weather team playin in friged conditions. well anyways i see alot of points being scored winds are going to die down into the 2nd quarter. both of these two teams put points on the board.

NIU Coach Jerry Kill abruptly left for the Minnesota job, and he took a bunch of staff members with him.  I am taking Fresno State -1 as I believe NIU will be disorganized trying to execute with a jumbled staff.   Fresno State is no SEC team, but they can sure hold their own.
